Web 2.0 is much more about user-generated content than it is about XMLHTTPRequest. So the premise about WikiPedia is largely valid.

So how does the service authenticate the user? User installs a browser extension (wallet) that is created by a third party that they have to trust unconditionally? Is that what the promised land of zero trust is about? Trusting a 3rd party

Do you use a standalone EVM node or mainnet? Recording small bits of data on mainnet must cost you hundreds of dollars in gas fees? If it’s your own personal blockchain then why not use a regular database?

This is an overly theoretical description of a single potential benefit of web3. How many people—even very technically skilled ones—read smart contracts in their entirety? Launching a crowdfunding platform backed by a smart contract should

Both 1 and 2 are nonsense. I am very curious about blockchains (Etherium primarily), but so far have not seen any web3 projects that are more “beautiful” than Electric Counterpoint by Reich or more “dastardly” than the holocaust. If you mea

Yes. Creators should upload content to Imgur and ask supporters to pay them directly through PayPal. That’s a fantastic alternative to Patreon.

Could it also indicate the usage of a new phrase in place of an established word “homeless”? Like if I used the term “apartmentless city dweller” I would probably put in quotes.

Why stop specifically at USSR? Why not go further back in history and call this a unification of Kievan Rus’?

It’s an incredibly perverse tactic: reclassify crime, disincentive people from reporting it, disempower police from dealing with it… and then tout this as a reduction in crime levels and a win. Pathetic.

In a way I see experiences as a distraction, escapism, something that helps to postpone the search for meaning.

Is this a serious response? Why would you stop thieves while at your job doing exactly what you are hired to do? By this logic, what is the minimum a thief should take for you to stop them? Should it be the amount close or equal to the mone

Sounds like you are very new to this extremely polarizing discussion. This is the direct result of the provision that downgraded thefts under $1000 to a misdemeanor charge. Cops can’t be bothered to deal with most store thefts because in mo

Providing context like that seems alien to me. In the same way as specifying that I am a white cis straight male 98% Northern European and 2% Central European, etc, etc. Almost everyone is privileged in some way. I, personally, don't n

Are you saying that it’s not categorically virtue signaling because someone can find value in that? Doesn’t sound logical to me. If the detail doesn’t contribute to the discussion but is meant to appease a specific group - that’s definitely

There are many applications that only request logged in user’s name and email address to be populated in the registration form. I myself implemented this many times without “harvesting” anything else.

I also told a recruiter that FB would be the last company I would ever work for - about 3 years ago. They stopped. Then about 2-3 months ago they renewed their attempts. I am guessing someone I know got hired and gave them my contact detail

Nice webapp! One small improvement that would make it more usable for me would be not to limit titles to a single line on the homepage - it would be a more smooth experience if I could read the full title before clicking it. Thank you.

It’s puzzling how many people are so ready to mask their own responsibility by shifting it to a legal entity that apparently now has a duty to do whatever it takes to generate more profit. As if individually these people wouldn’t act in une

Right. In the case of phone-operated sex trafficking I don't think amplification is even an option. It's not like phone companies are deciding what phone calls you should be receiving today and are lining them up for you to take p

Amplification not in the electrical signal amplification sense but rather in the sense of amplifying the message. Facebook is giving more visibility to content that it considers more engaging, even if that content leads to harmful outcomes

I am used to seeing these numbers when talking about social media but really… 70 mln is a huge number. It’s a total population of many countries.. combined! Retention will be much smaller of course.

Would you agree that it would be wrong for telephone companies to amplify sex slavery conversations? Like they would call you directly and just let you participate in the conversation because that would generate more engagement?

I am baffled by this display of lack of ethics. Do we need a Walmart comparison to put Facebook’s action in perspective? Facebook - by its own acknowledgement - negatively affects teenage mental health and the democratic processes in many c
