I like C quite a bit, but if I said, "I like C more than C++ or JavaScript or Haskell", I'd be locked away forever. In a padded room. With nothing but a BASIC interpreter. i.e. nobody, but nobody says their favorite language

I don't know why you bothered to provide a link and no commentary. This proves that people have attempted it, not that it is common nor that it produces equivalent results. I'm well aware that for some games, it can work "ok&

Really, you're trading execution speed for productivity, not "BS for BS" when you use these so-called "web languages". In some cases, there are other concerns such as memory usage or software environment (e.g. tryin

Depending on how you value things, being able to spend fewer clock cycles may be more "environmentally responsible" in the long run, though data centers do run a pretty tight ship. ;)

Right, I get it. I was merely stating that the parts of OpenGL that don't resemble a modern GPU have been removed. That is a fact. EDIT: I would also like to add that only in the strictest and most painful sense was the legacy OpenGL &

As an avid reader of Mesa3D and a user of GL 3.3 core, I can say that much cruft was removed in so far as it doesn't resemble a modern GPU (e.g. fixed function pipeline), OpenGL still has plenty of warts to bitch about. The GL 3.3 samp

Hmm, I've never heard of John Rawls (but I'm not too keen on political theory, either). Thanks, this the first time anyone has ever answered my query in a helpful way. I guess I'll have to see he has to say on the matter.

I don't mean this in a bad way, but if someone says "recompile Mesa", I take it for granted that the understood context is "open source drivers". I didn't mean to confuse anyone.

It's a marketing phrase actually -- it's a holistic approach to how a product is presented. It took me a long time to understand it in its entirety, but nearest equivalence here is "user experience", i.e. the drivers on

I think you're missing the implicit "open source" in this statement. The OP mentioned "recompile Mesa" and getting buggy 4.x support. No open source driver supports 4.x yet. I'm aware that proprietary drivers a

What is a patriot then? Someone willing to die for their country or someone to makes sacrifices for their country? Just last week, I painted a school (volunteer work) and I currently fix up donor computers to give to underprivileged youth.

Abstractly, perhaps, but I think we can say that there are more concrete reasons why a nation may dislike the USA. I'm not arguing for or against the USA as a power here, just that this just seems too much of an oversimplification of

No, you can't get OpenGL 4.x on Linux. You can't even get GL 3.3 -- geometry shader support is in it infancy. A quick look at mesa3d-dev or phoronix will show you that.
