I miss the tooling for VRML. I did a lot of modeling in VRML back then, but gradually all the tools have stopped working. I particularly miss the cosmos editor and browser. It had a fantastic ui, but was lost in buyups by incompetent adob

I agree with most of the suggestions. Apart from doing something physical after work (even the commute), I try to leave a gap of 2-3 hours relaxing, before I pick up mental activities again. I.e. the interval between 16 and 19 I use to unwin

Lying on the internet is so ingrained, it is part of its fabric. There are several core memes based on it ("are you saying someone would post something untruthful on the internet??"). I'm not even lying (much) here. However,

Not always true. Minecraft started out as a great game, and parts of it still is, but Microsoft bought it up and is busy stuffing it full of crap.

I tend to not wholly agree. While I have spent insane amounts of money on both computer games and movies, some of us pirate simply to get rid of obnoxious DRM crap. As an example, I find it infuriating that my multimedia setup involves two

Actually, i like it for basic desktop apps, because it just works, and i stay clear of the last 12 years of front-end dumpster fires, where nothing that is over 18 months old, can build, compile or get support anymore. In my day job, I inhe

I feel like I both understand and don't understand this analogy. In my experience, databases want your eternal soul, and not in a good way. At least they are 80% of our cloud costs.

I abandoned my attempts to make larger projects in pure javascript. I happily write larger projects in typescript. Typescript makes javascript feasible, usable for me.

I see it differently. At work, we have several bothersome but sorely needed issues that needs doing, but no one is volunteering to do them, because they mostly consist of loads of thankless work, that may drag on, and will distract you from

In german, this is sometimes referred to as 'bessermachen', i.e. this must/should have 'better made', in some arbitrary way. It is all about 'which monkey is in charge here'.

There are 2-3 related aspects to this: One part is to which degree the person's own mental model corresponds to reality. If they are out of sync, it will lead to pain, no matter what Dunning-Kruger says - the inability to plan or execu

I have my own theory on this. Green-field projects are usually whipped up and rolled out by the experienced devs in the shop. Once the boat is in the water and floating, the senior devs are posted off to next new-dev initiative, and the fol
