Wow, I didn't know of fail2ban and denyhosts. I actually have a home-made script similar to fail2ban.

You wrote a long post but could you perhaps expand it even more? Perhaps in an article? I don't see how "more order means more economic activity": if anything, I associate "more order" with more bureaucracy and higher barrier to entry for n

I see I keep getting downvoted but I'll bite: why should Apple distribute GCC in some other way? The subset of people that need GCC on OSX but can't handle the whole XCode is probably pretty small. Why not try Fink ( http://pdb.finkproject.

Well, technically this Xcode doesn't come just with gcc, it has the iOS SDK too. For example, on my machine I see this: du -h -d 1 /Developer/Platforms/ 10M /Developer/Platforms//MacOSX.platform 4.4G /Developer/Platforms//iPhoneOS.platform

Wow, that's a long complaint-blog for $5! The cheapest new mac is $699 and the install DVD comes with XCode 3. Pretty sure new macs will come with XCode 4 preinstalled. I don't see how this is a problem. Even if you are building a Hackintos

I couldn't really vote for any of the existing options. When I have something really hard I prefer to work from home since I have (almost) no distraction and it's quiet. But for a normal day's work, I prefer a nonsmoking coffee shop with de

So this is like an AWS-specific Puppet implementation? It doesn't seem to go all the way down to installing linux packages for example which would be really nice.

I've never done consumer facing payments so I don't quite understand what are they selling here. Why not use Paypal directly for example (since that's one of the gateways they support)? My question might sound silly but in B2B you just use

It seems the iPad was released not too long ago so it's 'fun' that the current iPads will have such a dive in value with the new iPad2 hitting the streets. I know it's been released in April, but that's just in the US. It arrived in the res

The problem with niche open-source products is that you won't find enough developers to pick up development for free after they are abandoned by the original authors. So, unless some company steps in to sponsor this and/or users start finan

I am surprised how little focus is put on the legal and financial aspect of running a business there. I see on one of the pages that the business income tax is 17% and individual income tax is progressive (up to 40%), VAT is 19%. Then you h

I don't think the answer is as simple because we don't know Oracle's side so to speak and from what I've read, I don't see where all the evil-ness is. So, I don't know who's getting screwed here, but I'm siding with Oracle. I wonder how wou

Yes, but it's too premature to think about it. Even if API changes do happen popular plugins will either get patched to support both APIs or some parallel plugins will emerge.

This was as overdramatic as I have learned to expect ever since the whole fork thing started. Hudson cannot "lose" its plugins right now because there are no signifiant API/ABI changes between the two forks. Also, I wonder how much these pl

I've been following a bit the Hudson debacle and I'm not surprised things are tense there, especially after the new fork. But I do not think it's as simple as it seems and blaming everything on Oracle's "native evilness" is a bit naive. Qui

I don't understand this -- I buy ebooks because it's too complicated to buy physical books from my country. If it would be as convenient as the US I would buy mostly paperback and just for a select few the ebook version.
