From a (cynical?) content and affiliate point of view, I like the style of taking user questions (bonus points if H.B. is a real person) and answering it - rather than just a bland list of products by "expensive but good, less expensiv

I’ve heard of this on twitter a lot lately - it sounds like you have to amortize some costs (like dev salary - or your own salary!) over 6 years )?!) instead of applying the full thing as a cost for the current tax year. Big yikes.

One specific thing I wonder about is how this setting effects Docker, specifically when pushing/pulling images around. In both GitHub Docker and Moby organizations, "SetNoDelay" doesn't return any results. I wonder if pe

Looks like that specific issue / change wasn't accepted, but this[1] alternative will be. That seems like a great change to me. [1]: https://github.com/golang/go/issues/51365

I played that game for HOURS as a kid. I literally just yelled "OMG A-10 ATTACK!" when I saw it there about 3 minutes ago. I don't remember the key bindings very well (or if it works with a mouse), but I did make it into the

There’s a meta story hiding here about owning the domain puter.com, and I’d love to know the history of this domains ownership.

Based on the description, it almost sounds like someone scammed them into spending (presumably) a lot of money on something pretty useless.

The other side of this is "waiting" until your kids are a bit older - that means you're doing startups in your 40's+ In your 40's+, you're no longer staying up all night (probably), but statistics supposedly sa

Seven years ago I wasn’t married, didn’t have kids, nor a mortgage. Now I have all of that. Decisions are often made for me as I prioritize meeting the demands of higher minimum income and time spent with family and kids. For better or for

This project looks really neat! Firecracker is very cool, I wish/hope tooling around it matures enough to be super easy. I'd love to see the technical details on how this is run. It looks like it's closed source? The need for

I eat a granny smith every day. They don't deserve this ranking, and this is absolutely a hill I will...uh... lie down on. Not die on. I pair it with some cheddar cheese. Another good pairing with cheddar cheese is Mcintosh. When they&

I love the description of an observer, I think that’s apt! “not engaged with himself” resonates for me. I do think my parents must have been checked out for a spell there - overworked and under payed. As kids you don’t necessarily notice b

Montessori was bad for me. At least the Montessori I was placed in. I need to find out where it was (and how old I was - I would guess 5 or 6), but the situation is that I was not ready (or perhaps not the right type of kid) for Montessori.

It seems to me that the main benefit is the ability to give a prompt, and be given a starting point. An h1 (or h2 I suppose) on the site is "Let Notion AI handle the first draft." That makes sense! That's a lot easier than st

Many of the books I read as a kid would never have been read if they weren't a physical chunk of dead wood in front of my face, sitting on a book shelf. Now, as a full-ass adult with young kids, I usually buy books from Kindle. It'

Oh fun! I bought a copy of this book years ago, it was cathartic after "serving" under a boss who was particularly conflicted with the gift of being a bullshitter. I eventually used the book as a shim - a sort of layer of protecti

Very doable. Although on systems like Fly where you attempt to build one container to run an app, it’s a bit overkill. What I dislike most about php-fpm is the logging mechanism (or lack thereof). You need to configure it to capture stderr

My understanding is RoadRunner is more like FrankenPHP's "worker mode" (RoadRunner only makes sense in context of Laravel Octane), where as FrankenPHP can run "normally" as well.

Removing php-fpm + nginx from a container sounds AMAZING to me. If I can just have one thing in a container (plus a code base), that would be a LOT simpler than: nginx, php-fpm, some init system, and the convoluted configuration needed to g

I think I found a good remote dev environment recently - basically "just use Mutagen to sync files to a server close to you". That keeps the source of truth (code files) local but outsources the compute. I started working at Fly.i

Hey, I was just looking into kbclip the other day, that looks really solid. It works within the native Slack app, which is a nicer experience than trying to replicate data into an external wiki in my case.
