I don't think this is true. I don't own that many games on steam that offer in-app purchases, but monster hunter's redirect you to the steam storefront, and steam definitely takes their cut of those.

Not trying to take a side here, but Epic especially is not the company I want leading the charge here. I am vehemently opposed to their (and Tencent's) primary business model. Edit: It isn't like there aren't policies that Ap

I find the notion that discrimination based on profession is somehow acceptable extremely strange.

Can you elaborate further? In very small towns surname can link you to a specific family, but outside of that and something like anti-semitism, I don't think I've ever heard of surname related association of that kind in the US.

Err, I don't understand why you would choose doctors and lawyers as your example given both require scholastic qualifications to receive the title.

I don't understand how a person could manage to only care about "caste" when getting married and never care about it any other time. Maybe I just don't understand what you were trying to get at with your original comment

I despise working from home, and think my productivity has taken a massive hit as a result. Believe it or not I like being able to switch between a work and home environment, and find it vastly improves my mood and productivity.

This is too bold a claim. Not an inaccurate one, as with some languages runtime does play a huge factor in widespread adoption, but as with many things, it's just more complicated than that. Obviously scripting languages like python do

I don't think the windows vs everything else is the main point of this article. I think it is just an example of a design trend, and even within that section of the article the author mentions unix specific design flaws of go file hand

I surprises me that most people here aren't up in arms in agreement with this point. Code that is silently incorrect is an absolute disaster on an enterprise level. I spend a lot of time writing seemingly redundant double and triple er

The http client isn't always directly exposed. I agree with the author. Context is a per request object and timeout should be able to function on a per request basis. Client is often shared and reused, and thus not always exposed in ce

Luckily products from well established companies are still free from fake reviews (on Amazon) by and large. As long as you avoid the hordes of 5 star products with very generic brand names that you have never heard of, you can still trust r

Today basically every piece of external hardware is compatible with pretty much every computer. Better than that, they are plug and play for the most part. Thanks for reminding me to properly appreciate this.

This can change. Sure HR will almost always protect the organization, but I hope we are coming to the point where it is unequivocally more damaging to these companies to sweep these issues under the rug rather than dealing with them properl

I don't think that lack of incentive is the primary reason that software is so unreliable. It might be part of the reason, maybe even a significant part, but not more than that. I suspect that software is just ridiculously hard. The co

Also isn't growth a natural result of human progress? As science and technology move forwards they allow for more productivity per person and thus drive growth right? Or is that an overly simplistic notion?

I don't think it is fair to anonymously denigrate someones life choices particularly when you have no idea what that person does specifically, and there is ABSOLUTELY a place in this world for advertising on the internet.

If we credit all of valve's accomplishments to Gabe I would argue he is up there as well, for the games, but even more for Steam, given the influence it has had on pc gaming, and indie games in particular.
