It's more or less the same for me. I do dread the impact of AI on certain fields -- e.g. let's say you want to contribute to an OSS by reading the source code, GitHub issues, and making patches, but now people swarm the repo with

> Still, I doubt that it's possible to significantly speed up human learning. The bottleneck is hardly the teachers nor the materials, but how fast a human brain can absorb new knowledge. I completely agree with it. LLM might be abl

Wondering can we write microcode? That's definitely closer to the metal.

I'm wondering if the following works: 1. Feed it with Ultima II/III assets; 2. Feed it with reverse engineering research of such assets; 3. Ask it to use C++ and SDL2/3 to write a game engine to draw maps, generate enemies, m

Does it make sense to give the troops special phones instead of their own? I always find it weird that soldiers can take their own phones into the base.

I'm an amateur of C and knows nothing about Zig, so I'm not sure if this is equivalent to a C Union. But shouldn't we leave these kinds of problems to the programmers, not the language designers? Or did I miss anything? >

Yeah, I think it's good to dogfood one's own program. It's just...we are so short of time. We are not the lucky few who could actually pull it off, lol.

Thanks for sharing! I'm not really good enough to make the right call, but I get your points. So you would prefer someone in Google to build custom tools or introduce features into the C++ language and compilers to fix those issues, no

Thanks for sharing. Do you mind to share a bit more about your observation and experience with C++ in Google? I'm just curious what kind of guidelines and practices produce better C++ code, because I have used C++ in my side projects,

I kinda think this is the story of "Oh someone wrote a screen editor -- that's the 10th time I heard from other people". Like, if you write a text editor nowadays, my thoughts would probably NOT be too different, except that

If average Google programmers are too stupid to program in C++, what kind of qualities are needed to get good at programming in C++? Like 140+ IQ? Or one needs to really sit down, think through, slow down, which is against the "velocit

I think they have their fair share of snow storms during the winter because of the vortex coming from the West. The vortex goes down from Alaska because the mountains block it, and then it turns east and goes straight to the lake area. I li

Disclaimer: I'm probably not in the position of educating teenagers as my life has not been a success. But my 2 cents anyway: I think you need to figure out your life first. You are 16 so you are going to college (or do other things) s

My favourite way for relatively large PRs: Read code, and then build it and run manually in my IDE against some ad-hoc test cases (unit test cases should be automated). Then check for styles and documentation. My real way for any PR nowaday

For example, I would like to know how to calculate the charge of incremental export before I run one. One blog says it is charged by the amount of change logs (but the official doc doesn't say so), which makes sense. But how do I estim

Thanks, I don't really get any chance to seriously use or manage OLTP databases (mostly working with OLAP ones myself) so it is good to know about this. The 400KB limit is indeed very limiting -- I had to truncate some data because of

Wow congratulations for the original authors, but I hope it doesn't impact the users. I can imagine that it is very useful for AWS because they don't exactly have something similar. I use DuckDB extensively for local dev as well a

What is really interesting is that no insider engineer has leaked anything. What we got was essentially "LLM" hitting GitHub really hard. But there is no retro or maybe i missed it.

I guess getting H-1Bs with relatively equal compensation (but maybe worse work habits) is still a lot better than getting jobs offshored to somewhere that has 1/3 of the costs.
