Wow - the video shows a very inspiring guy - not because he is particularly charismatic, but rather because he seems humbled by his role. Clearly feels that he is playing a small part in a larger movement, and deeply patriotic.

I was making that argument, somewhat unsuccessfully, with a VC friend last night. His counter was "I have to see that THIS idea is the one, among all the others you could be pursuing..."

I wonder if the difference is when you look at "one and done" guys vs. serial entrepreneurs. But even then - many seem to change domains in subsequent startups.

The context in which I find the ambiguity most apparent is when it's related to someone's motivation for being involved in a project. While it's clear that some people are motivated by the subject of their work - I think they are few and

I've actually often thought there is a business idea here - there is no easy way to give kids investment gifts without a bunch of painful dealing with banks.

Partly! We see it as extracting some of the mechanics of 4square, some of the mechanics of WOW, etc, and then letting people build their own games.

We wrestled with the structure issue - giving people the freedom to build takes away the ease of conveying what it is. As far as gaming the system, we envision 3 levels of proof: honor system if it's a game between you and your friends, p

Totally agree that this needs re-doing. One way we were thinking of doing this is by putting the active games closer to the top, and letting people look at some of the tasks being accomplished.
