All my evidence is anecdotal, based on talking to my users. But that'd be a great topic for developer survey. Also, I'm quoting Perens' definition of open source.

I'm on mobile and with family today so I can't respond in-depth (happy independence day!), but have ever wondered why the term "source-available" has changed meaning, yet the term "open-source" is not 'all

The readers may not like it, but you're not actually wrong. Go ask 100 developers if BSL or ELv2 are open source and the majority of them will say that it is -- because the source code is available, and for the majority of users, thes

I see docker-compose.prod.yml -- but I was under the impression that nobody used docker-compose in production, and I vaguely remember that it was even discouraged by Docker. Is that what docker-compose is used for now? Am I misremembering?

I actually think cs.github.com is now the same as github.com/search. It was in beta for awhile but they recently started redirecting it.

Since when can you run heroku pg:upgrade to switch database tiers? I've been following an upgrade sequence I put together over the years [^0], but I guess Heroku automated this at some point? What would be really funny is if this had b

Is the Go example even valid? I've never seen that (arr: [[]]int) syntax.

Pretty much. They want the burden of proof for SLAs to fall on the customer, not on themselves. If a customer has to prove that an outage specifically affected them, they are much less likely to have a successful case against the failure to

I wrote my company's CLI [0] in Go using the Cobra framework, and I don't regret it at all. Cross-platform compilation is a breeze, and having a single binary to distribute is *chef's kiss*. [0]: https://github.com

That was likely due to the Reddit blackout. I'd imagine a lot of those users will go back to Reddit since HN generally doesn't appreciate shitposting.

Probably right. I have a 4 year old and a 1 year old, so more like 2.5 adults lol. But we eat beef and fish more often than chicken.

The idea of sending an email to team@ which then automatically, without any further input, blasts a newsletter with the aforementioned email's content seems... badly designed? That was ripe for accidental or deliberate misuse.
