OK, I've been meaning to ask the HN community about this. Please share your thoughts. Wouldn't it make a lot of sense for Google (et al) to have this sort of authentication every time you want to change your Google Accounts password? Isn'

IMPORTANT UPDATE: I now realize this happened when I saved to disk my webpage using Chrome (!!!!). Frankly I thought Chrome would never do this, along prodigal_erik's lines. It looks like IE is not the only one that isn't bit-for-bit faith

I have another question on that regard. How do you "put it all together"? Specially if you want to host your maps locally. Mapserver, Openlayers, OSM data, QGIS, ... I don't know where to start. Any good references? (I tried google. I will

It's puzzling me beyond belief. I first saw, of all things, using netcat! I don't use IE... but that showed up there. Now I'm a level-1 rookie, and I know my VPS security settings are very lax (e.g., I use root all the time), so I could onl

I know this article is eons old for Internet standards, but I've been wondering how Compete.com actually achieved a "panel" of 2M US Internet users to submit their data. Participating is not even heavily advertised in their main site. Tho

It would help to have the "noobstories" header on the main HN page. Only after typing in the URL http://news.ycombinator.com/noobstories is that header visible.

Thank you all for your replies. I'll try to be more specific. I feel I need some technical guidance in how to get a moderately interactive site up and running. Google App Engine seems interesting, and what I have in mind is to build a simpl

I hope I'm not flagged as a spammer over this, since I tend to make this point every chance I get. Namely, how exactly do you go about rapid prototyping? I figure in all likelihood it's a bit of an art and requires a lot of experience and k
