Not a lot of content here and it's debatable HN material but if there's a key takeaway for this audience it's that you should save some of yourself for your relationship if you are in a couple. It's very easy to go "

I think a good path, not often discussed, is for older developers to dedicate some portion of their time developing side-projects that can create a passive (or not so passive) income stream. Being "old" gives you a lot of time to

$1 million is practically nothing as far as startup funding goes. Especially in the Bay Area. That's basically a year to find product market fit and raise another round. No offense but you don't sound like you have enough experien

We definitely disagree there. For me creating technology is like creating art. Sure some artists may have a mainstream social agenda but some may just be weirdos who need to paint to stay sane :) I don't see it as my or anyone else

If you want people to take your opinions on gender issues seriously, it's probably best not to use sexist terms like "mansplaining". Edit (for some reason, locked from commenting further): > It describes a specific behavio

I think there's quite a bit of self-awareness and honesty in questioning these types of initiatives. So many of these "women in tech" discussions are thiny veiled power plays to take economic and decision making power away fr

You often have to learn this stuff outside of your regular job. Once you know another stack then you can find another job using it. That's how you exert control over your career. Tying yourself to one company (or stack) is a slow death

Why would high performers stay in this environment when they could leave to work somewhere where pay is tied to performance and not seniority? It seems the only people who would be happy with this setup _are_ the mediocre.
