I tried Nostr for awhile, and I appreciate that they're picking up where Scuttlebot left off. There are a few things that bug me about it that I wish they'd fix, or that some future protocol will solve. First, I want a replication

This is good advice, people looking for AI people in SF take that first morning stroll through Hayes Valley.

Agree. There's nothing like waking up in that hostel in the Tenderloin and going for a morning stroll looking for AI people to network with.

I've been invited out to SF to 'network' by founders and VC's a total of 3 times over the past decade+. 10+ years ago the hostels were $11 a night, and Airbnb room could be $45 - $65. The last time I convinced myself may

What this technology needs to succeed is some kind of scary worldwide disinformation plot that scares everyone into adopting it. I don't think the Internet filling up with AI spam is scary enough, we need to dream bigger on this one. W

It's the same thing as Nostr, wanting to tie payments to identities.

There are not really meetups anymore post-CovID, but'd be good to start some again. Maybe that's a good startup idea to make a meetup planner that is not owned by WeWork.

I mean yah you can hang out at Noisebridge but my experience was mostly creepy guys on Macintoshes trying to get me to fiddle with padlocks under their camcorders.

The last time I was in SF was a couple of years ago and I tried it all. Ultimately I was searching for a job dishwashing in North Beach and I was told that the servers cleaned the dishes and they were full up on servers. I love it out there

Yah, you'd want more nodes that agree on the protocol that are willing to distribute the information.

This video helped me understand more about what is going on with this project: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ld87FNygymw Polycentric is another post-Scuttlebot app with a slightly different take on message replication.

The Federated App Problem has already been solved a couple of times using replicated gossip networks of signed messages. Sometimes they use append-only logs, other times they use only relays, and the implementations are all highly creative

On the record blocks is a protocol mistake that has been ported over from Scuttlebot. They'd be better off with a client side mute button. It's an algorithmic choice, but most who've used these platforms for years know public
