32 bit integers or not, that's a bit tangential to R's dominance as a statistical language. I work in population-level genomics and haven't found this to be a problem (yet?). Furthermore, what's wrong with the package sy

Glad you're still interested! I agree–R is light-years ahead of the competition (Python, essentially) in most statistical domains. It seems to fit the workflow better.

I agree. It's extremely unlikely a large number of lower income individuals commute by car into Manhattan. Parking alone in Manhattan often costs more than minimum wage per hour and street parking wouldn't be reliable enough.

Indeed. It is quite odd (perhaps to the point of being misleading) to use scientific notation ahead of "tonnes of kg", instead of just using scientific notation combined with Kg. I made this mistake reading the article–I divided 1

I don't know how you come to this conclusion. I assume you mean the American Heart Association, whose grants are pretty incredibly competitive. Lots of good science doesn't get funded.

Is this really what passes for statistical analysis in the investment community? From a biomedical statistics background, this analysis so atrocious that I don't know where to start.

100k/year is definitely well above (~2x) the median salary for someone in public service in a job like this in NYC. Police officers in the NYPD start around 42k/year.

Interesting. I was not aware. Wouldn't you still owe the IRS money if the foreign taxes are deducted? As far as I understand tax deductions work like: Initial Income - Deduction = Adjusted Income. Then, you owe full taxes on the Adjust

I have to think American citizenship would be a pretty bad choice for a second passport, since America taxes its citizens on income earned abroad. You'd be approximately doubling your taxes if you are already taxed on income while abro

Anyone have an article link? Annoying when the link directly to the journal. I browsed recently published but didn't see it.

They just... work really well. Sound quality is good enough, mic quality is pretty good, the battery lasts forever and then they also recharge extremely quickly in the carrying case, they pair without any trouble to my phone and mac, etc. A

Haha fair enough. How's the rabies situation there? Are people still doing multicompartment SIR models? That kind of stuff is hard to parralelize.

I had lots of stability issues with mine on Linux kernel 4.15 which I eventually tracked down to the X399 motherboard M2 controller, not the CPU or ram as I had feared. TRIM on my M2 drive had somehow gotten enabled and was causing intermit

Agree with you. I have a ~4k touchbar Macbook Pro and do HPC type of stuff all day... and I rarely consider doing anything more than a toy simulation or computational experiment on my laptop. When I previously used a Macbook Air, my toy PoC

This is perhaps tangential to the article, but what is the advantage of running the MySQL server with more than 48 threads on a 24-core, 48 thread CPU anyway? The fact that performance is in the EPYC cpu increasing on the older 4.13 kernel
