I'm a little confused. This community (myself included) often complains about how we wish Hollywood would release their movies as DRM-free files. But then some of us say that the "purchase" price is too high and we want a "rental" option. H

This is perfect timing for a video streaming solution I've been working on. I'm trying to build a video capture program and a google tv app that talk to each other so I can stream video around our LAN. The video capture box would probably b

That would make way too much sense. The server hosting the public-facing site is across town (where the sysadmin works). The RDP step is for getting from our network to a non-public-facing machine that is physically right next to the public

My organization's public-facing website is on a .mil domain. Our sysadmins tell us that for compliance reasons, any server-side processing is prohibited and right now the only way to update the site is a combination of RDP and sneakernet. B

I actually really like your idea of comparing the choice of DRM-encumbered vs DRM-free files to choices we make with respect to how our food is produced. I think many Americans have a general idea that the food they eat is the product of a

I think you're stretching the definition of DRM a bit. In my comment, I was referring to the set of technologies used to make it harder to copy a legally purchased file. Wikipedia's definition is quite good, but is a little too long to repo

The DRM argument for piracy is a bit of a straw man. Music hasn't been sold with DRM for over three years, but it still makes up a sizable portion of The Pirate Bay's offerings. You could say that musicians are being tyrannical by choosing

Since I'm most of the way done with the work of being the executor for my mother's estate (she died about a year ago), hopefully I can provide some perspective here. As a practical matter, a laptop and any software purchased for it gets put

I had noticed that images in my news feed on the Facebook app on my iPad 2 were displaying weirdly, but it hadn't occurred to me that it was likely a HiDPI problem. ("weirdly" = some images are blown up 2x bigger than you'd expect them to b

Looks like the Council tabled the matter until november. https://twitter.com/SegravesWTOP/status/222696651620483072 Does anyone know if this means Uber gets to operate Uber X in the meantime?

Those of us who live in and around the District have been waiting for that "rude awakening" for a very long time. It's worth pointing out that Marion Barry ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marion_Barry ) is still sitting on the DC Council.

I use Sequoia ( http://pro.magix.com/en/sequoia/overview.527.html ) and I'm very happy with the 'Save Project Copy' function. When I start a new project, I create a 'history' folder and the project copies go in there, named as project_name-

Since my day job involves working with composers as they record original works, I know $100 per track is very low considering the time/creativity/experience required. However, I respect that different people are at different stages in the

I already have a clearance. I guess this means I've probably been talking to the wrong people. For the contractors I've been talking to, when I tell them that I write python when I can, PHP when I'm patching stuff I wrote a few years ago, a

Nicely done! A lot of the commenters here think you're charging too little and I agree. Have you thought about having two pricing tiers: one for non-exclusive use and much higher one (maybe $100 per track?) for exclusive use? If I were a ga

Why did you put quotes around "require" when describing your userbase and Mac hardware? I'm genuinely curious - do their stated reasons for using Macs differ from how you think they are actually using their machines?

Oops. Thanks for catching that. I built that button for the popular and top-rated pages, which come with lots of pages. It should be hidden for searches that return less than 20 results. I'll get on this right away.

Thanks! The "popular" page pulls from TMDb's popular list. I suppose I could use something like iTunes's top rentals instead, but then I'd be trying to match up titles which can be less than 100% reliable.
