I just caught myself thinking: "I hope they got a software patent on this, they deserve it." But I usually hate software patents unequivocally. So, yet again, a real-world use case reminds me that nothing is so black and white.

Awesome news for both CloudKick and Rackspace. For what it's worth, I hadn't really tried out CloudKick before, but tried it after today's news...I'm quite impressed. I really hope Rackspace rolls this functionality into their own offerin

I've seen this phenomenon before and it really is fascinating. I was not able to ever capitalize on it, but I hope someone else is is able to better dissect it, study it, and post about it.

In my experience, it's pretty rare for a project of this maturity to continue to get faster and leaner--usually you see more features and bloat bringing performance decreases. Somehow SQLAlchemy has managed to not only add features, but ge

Wow, I don't know how to say this other than that I disagree with almost every single thing you said. You're really advocating that he emulate the hubris, overzealous, wannabe cool tone of "put this in your pipe/and smoke it"? Building a p

I've seen a number of times when people don't understand the statelessness of HTTP, and try to put megabytes of data in a cookie-backed session--unable to understand why that doesn't work, etc. This is especially prevalent in .NET land, whe

I think Lanyrd's "tracking" feature solves this, because it shows which of your friends are interested in the conference right alongside those who are slated to attend and/or speak.

Not sure what you're getting at here--Lanyrd lets you see where it is, who's attending (and which of those are your friends), the planned sessions, and the date/time.

You used to be able to create a Facebook app with some viral hook and slap ads on it and make hundreds to thousands a day. Now it's much, much harder due to Facebook cracking down so hard on virals, but it can still be done. Another way is

Yeah, but then there's that whole other class of people who are great but can't deal with the pressure and awkwardness of coding on a whiteboard in an interview. No interview process can be perfect, so unfortunately the trick is in correcti

I've been a Rackspace Cloud customer for years, and happily so, but it's this constant drumbeat of innovation and forward momentum at Amazon that makes me seriously reconsider my choice. I really want to see Rackspace step up its game over

Yep, exactly. I expect that as node.js rises in popularity in general, JavaScript's use as an embedded game scripting language will rise (possibly at the expense of Lua and Python). Actually now that I write this, I wonder about the possib
