Unfortunately the image in the original post seems to have been taken down. Is this really the same keyboard you reference in your post? If so, I have it on the computer I'm using to type this--a Lenovo X200s from 3+ years ago. (Still waiti

Probably not, actually--although that's a fair guess based on both the content of my post and the fact that it resides on Hacker News. I'm swamped with my own business currently. I'm more of the "consumer interested in the looks and apps" c

A couple things about this one that didn't click with me: 1) You mention "iPhone" at the top. Sorry, I've already clicked "Back"--I'm an Android user. Except Pebble is the first thing I've ever funded via Kickstarter, and I'm ridiculously e

Wow. This is kind of like "The Truman Show" in a way. Imagine, being born there now, and your whole life you "access the Internet", without even realizing it's not actually the Internet. Truly warped.

I went to that website, hoping for something interesting, and was disappointed to see that it's just misogyny disguised as humor (calling women "bitches" and implying that they only date men for their money.) I have to say I'm really disapp

If you're used to living in Washington, remember that California will take an additional ~10% of your income over $47,000 to state taxes. That starts to add up in a HUGE way--it's one reason why people are leaving the state in droves [1]. (

I'm going to second the reply to your comment. I thought what you think too, but it turns out the energy of a city matters. I moved from the Bay Area to San Diego. I LOVE San Diego. Still have many friends there. Unfortunately the tech comm

I work in an office with WP Engine and Other Inbox (recently acquired by Return Path.) There are plenty of startups here; the Capital Factory folks probably know many of them. I moved here from the Bay Area (with a 2-year stay in San Diego

"Wal-Mart didn't invent anything new..." Whoa! Wal-Mart revolutionized the supply chain. And Wal-Mart also started with a revolutionary idea: We can make stores in rural areas so people don't have to drive to the big city to shop. Every oth

Pretty ironic that Google--a company that gained notoriety for its minimalist search engine--has a "company blog" full of ridiculous eye candy. On my laptop screen, the top bar (which stays as you scroll down) takes up a ridiculous amount o

Josh, I applaud you. Don't let the people in this thread, your parents, or anyone else tell you differently, either. I dropped out of college when I was halfway through my second year to take a full-time job in tech. I left that job less th

This isn't as big a factor as many would have you believe, though. I have a list of nearly 15,000 people via Aweber. How many autoresponders do I get when I send an email? 10 or 12. Now, if you are Facebook, that might be a consideration. B

Already been done. The Nexus line of phones have the latest software directly from Google, and no carrier bloat. Really, anyone technical enough to read HN should go with a Galaxy Nexus or Nexus S vs. ANY other Android phone.

It's important if you want to get a job. Not so much if you want to start your own business (see my other comment in this thread for more details on that.)

First--I know the author of this post personally, and he's a good kid. Young, but ambitious, talented and smart, and he's got his head on straight. Second--how important is a CS degree in the Valley? I lived there for 10 years, was extrem

Faster, but inaccurate. There are plenty of domains that are registered, but the DNS doesn't resolve. That doesn't mean they are available to register!

Seconded. Typing this on an older X200s and very happy with it. It gets 8+ hours of battery life (well, 6-7 these days, as it's nearly 3 years old.) Battery is fully swappable/replaceable.

If it's anything like the others I've seen, GoDaddy will charge an "administrative fee" of hundreds of dollars to get the domain name turned back on, let alone unlocked and able to be transferred out. I have been telling people this for YEA

Can we all PLEASE agree to stop using GoDaddy? This is a GoDaddy thing, plain and simple. They get one complaint--they shut your domain name down by changing the name servers to NS1.SUSPENDED-FOR.SPAM-AND-ABUSE.COM and NS2.SUSPENDED-FOR.SPA

Come to Austin. We have a nice tech scene here (and budding seed/angel funding community) and it's still relatively cheap to live here. And it's pretty warm--though the summers get hot. But that's the beauty of growing an Internet business-
