Yep, this hits the nail on the head. I've got my shots, and now I'm firmly in the "let it rip" camp. Omicron is the endgame as far as I'm concerned. The point of all the onerous COVID rules and vaccine mandates wa

There is increasing evidence over the last 2 years that low-consequence "intervention" doesn't really deter future bad behavior. Perhaps there are some specific actions that would have a greater success rate, but a slap on t

> Hospital capacity will take years to increase No, not really. With trillions of dollars and 2 years there was absolutely plenty of time and resources to train more people and find new COVID-specific spaces. Nurses and PAs can be done

Our politicians and medical system executives have completely failed to do the one thing that would have actually made a difference: increase hospital capacity to care for COVID patients. All these mandates and lockdowns are just performan

At this point I assume it's clear to everyone that all humans will be exposed to COVID. Get your vaccine or don't, but one way or another your immune system will have to sort it out. The biggest story of COVID that no one is ta

I mean... you can put anything you want on the internet. I looked up their "methodology" and it's sort of just whatever they think a source/article is. Not really rigorous. And anyways, they put the WashPo right of NYT

I could not agree more. I don't mind hand wavy "technological breakthroughs" as long as the main point of the story is "when confronted with new crazy thing X, here's how humanity deals with it" and there'

If you read my comment, the answer is "no". That appears to be a white woman, and I was specifically talking about white "guys" which I used to mean "males"

Your examples are hilarious and you can imagine how I missed those. Pretend all the photos were reversed, and those were the only two people of color on the whole page. Google would be (rightfully) chastised.

That was my point. It's ridiculous whichever extreme they choose. In 2021 when everything is about race and equity, I find it telling who its OK to exclude. Why couldn't they just have it be equal across the board?

Some truly wild comments in this thread. The moral self-righteousness of the commenters here is really something to behold. I'm particularly saddened by so many of the obviously partisan comments. From my recollection it was Barack O

To me, this is not a lesson about speed, but rather a lesson about "compound interest". He was able to compound all his learnings from the first go round in to the second. That doesn't always mean it will go faster, but it

If you read my comment thoroughly, I was talking about cloth masks. That link you posted is really only interesting as far as surgical masks. The surgical mask effect is certainly interesting, but they couldn't de-correlate the effe

How can you write so many words defending the CDC? Their "guidance" is based on cherry picked science at best, and gut feelings and political narratives at worst. There are plenty of studies that suggest lockdowns, closed schools

This is such a horseshit argument. If you're at risk, by all means get the vaccine. You're protected. Job done. "But what about the children?!?!" is the next common refrain. What about them? Look at the numbers. CO

I myself am vaccinated, but I hold no ill will towards those who do not get it; whatever their reason. And yet, the media is conditioning all of us to hate those people. To shame them. To ignore their reason and free-will. The same peopl

Eh, everyone has been moving goalposts. First it was "flatten the curve" to prevent hospital overrun. Then at some point it became "no one can ever get covid again" and we did wild things like close schools even if a p

This is my US-based perspective: Closing schools last year due to COVID was as bad of a policy as putting COVID patients in nursing homes (looking at you MN and NY). We knew by September of last year that kids were less impacted by COVID

Depending on the age and temperament of the child there was probably no winning move. Some kids are terrified of loud noises. Leaf blowers, lawn mowers, whatever, will immediately set off tears and wailing. Even if they're four house

In my experience PJAX/turbolinks + server rendering will get you 80-100% of the way depending on use case. The remaining pieces can be filled in with careful and disciplined use of something like React/Preact or Stimulus.

Well, since you're being deliberately obtuse - I'll expound. My point is that these companies are moving focus away from the products that got them to where they are, to a set of vague handwavy concepts that are completely unquant
