You mentioned statistics and provided anecdotes. Also, ironically, you perfectly exemplified the risk/benefit trade-off: you took some risk with the idea that you could make more profit, but ultimately that failed - which is why being

This does not mean the corporations are state owned. If all large corporations benefit from the "money-creation apparatus" as you say, they still have to compete and can fail. The US government did not dictate that Google, Meta, A

The system doesn't have to be completely fair for it to work. Of course being born rich means you are likely going to be rich. However, if you're trying to climb the ladder, the advice you reject as a platitude is fundamentally tr

Funny to hear this sentiment in a tech forum. If you do well in a programming career you can afford a house almost anywhere. I don't think you need to work more than 40h a week to achieve that either.

Great. Then let the machines work hard, if they are doing all the work as you say there should be no issue.

What about Messi's Barcelona? And Manchester City in the past 5 years, by your estimation, could not be considered better than their opposition due to having won no Champions League? I think your standards fail the smell test, but more

Sounds like pretty standard big corp stuff. I honestly don't understand why a NDA is even required here.

That's a bad take. Strikes are temporary, and have clear goals of increasing pay and work conditions. You talk as if a union is formed, then strikes indefinitely and hurts profits, then the business fails. Unions have "fallen out

And where do those profits go, when a union shows up, if not to better pay and work conditions?

I believe any developer should be free to release things in the way they please. In fact some people might prefer an easy executable file. However, I do reserve the right to be suspicious and consider any such file as potentially malicious.

I used PIA before, and I left after I learned that they were sold to a dodgy guy whose previous company installed malware. The situation with NordVPN seems confusing, but no major red flag such as that one. I would not recommend PIA anymor

There is a vast academic literature on the topic if you are truly interested. Here is just one such study [0]. The argument is in any case very simple. In countries where unions were historically powerful, especially in the post-war period,

I found your post very compelling, but ultimately I disagree strongly. Vonnegut's assessment rings true, however the only reason I even heard of him - now one of my favorite authors - is because of the internet. I'm sure he's

I don't know of any other VPN company that has a no-log policy and has been audited to prove that. If anybody else has a recommendation that meets these conditions, I'd be glad to hear it.

Mate just look at labor laws and protections in the US vs Europe. Unionizing and striking is super effective for workers.

If anything, widespread use and understanding of this technology will help with situations like these. Teenagers in 10 years would absolutely not be impressed with a nude picture that has not been somehow verified as legitimate.

This piece is from 2022. I'm talking about the time when Twitter and Facebook banned publication of the original NY Post publication, which would have affected elections. We now know the FBI demanded this of Facebook.
