A startup I was advising budgeted $75k for their audit, they folded at the end of the year unrelated to the audit, though it didn’t help that they had to pour resources into that while trying to raise more funding.

This was announced last year: https://www.theregister.co.uk/2019/02/11/google_gmail_develo... It was a reaction to apps & extensions abusing access to users’ email.

I think I have a property defined like that (in Rhinebeck, NY). The deed is based on static landmarks, the only directional mention is from stone landmark to landmark (ie, walk North 120 feet to a landmark set 4 feet from Paper Street). No

Personally it's a combination of wariness and weariness. Wary of getting onto the new–new hotness bandwagon just because it’s the new–new thing, and weary of being pushed into a new–new thing because it’s the new–new thing and not nece

Leave. Feel no shame in it either, it sounds like the company misrepresented some or all of the role and the team. Find another role, give standard notice, leave on good terms, but control your departure and exit, don't wait around for

Mostly, no, because defined benefit plans have been all but killed off. Most union jobs have a defined benefit plan, but union representation in the US is under 20% I believe. Pension plans are "insured" by a Federal plan (PBGC)

Traditional “defined benefit” employee pensions in the US were treated as a balance sheet line item. There wasn't a separate, fenced off, account where funds were secured. In the 1980s it became popular for “corporate raiders” (today

It's good that each state can determine the laws applicable in its jurisdiction. If you don't want to comply, don't do business in California.

If the patent has value, develop it. That's the single best way for others to learn it has value. I'm not saying it needs to be a company, with VCs and funding and what not, but develop it into something demonstrating the value.
