Weird. As it turns out, the feature that I was complaining about reddit not having (not being able to add/remove without training the filter) was added an hour after I made this comment.

I think you hit the nail on the head with your last point, though I wouldn't necessarily call it moderator abuse. The actions that moderators can take on reddit were built on a laissez faire model of moderation, where anything goes except

I just approved that post. It should be fine. And on your second note, the idea is not that you go seeking out content to mix in with your own. If you happen to come across a cool article, and it hasn't been submitted to proggit yet, just

The post will show up for the submitter on their userpage and in their submitted links panel, however it will not show up in the new queue, not even for mods. This may be different for shadowbanned users, but I don't think it is. Actually,

That first one was submitted to /r/programming by a user who has a really bad history of incessantly spamming his/her own blog and nothing else. The user has 2 comments in 4 years, and only 2 submissions which are not self promotion (one o

Would you care to elaborate on this? Are you referring more to the removal of posts that have made it through the filter, or the lack of approval of posts that are stuck in the filter? I think we do a pretty good job. No choice is as clea

You shouldn't have to use incognito, unless you've got the "don't show stories that I've liked" preference checked.

This one was legitimately in the spam filter, however if it had not been, one of us probably would have taken it down for being off topic. EDIT: Right now that submission has 5 points, from people who must have clicked through on the blog p

FWIW, it's currently in /r/programming's spam filter, and it won't be coming out because it's not about programming. Sorry to be all stackoverflow about it, but that's how we operate.

The source article appears to have been modified to imply that it will not be exclusive to Netflix. EDIT: Other sources seem to be indicating that it will indeed be exclusive.

The question I'm really trying to get at is whether it's good or bad to be an X for Y company, or at least for people to think of you that way.

Do you think it's important to differentiate your product in such a way that it can't be described as X for Y? I suppose there are arguments for either case. If you can be described as X for Y, then you can make the argument that "it worke

Not to mention that the best torrent sites tend not to advertise at all, and are able to stay afloat solely on user donations. This could be a key point on this whole issue. If regular people are able to organize to create, share, and dis

I think you (and the author) give the average user too much credit. To most people on HN, it's probably pretty obvious that downloading applications directly from sketchy sources is a good way to have your device become infected by malware
