Personally I do the "remap caps lock to control" trick. That being said, I would hope the power button would be flush with the surface of the laptop, so you'd be more likely to hit the protruding escape key.

Agreed. I never saw the point of Bower, since it requires Node itself anyway. With tools like Browserify (and, I assume, Webpack... haven't had a chance to use it yet), you can load dependencies into your project extremely easily: `npm

Sounds pretty great, actually. On these modern devices where the LCD is bonded to the glass screen, replacing the screen can cost as much as the device itself.

Isn't that because infant mortality is still a problem in Africa? i.e. more children are born because the parents don't know how many will survive.

Some self promotion might be in order. I like the idea of a "word of the day" sort of blurb, but of course with your face and website. Otherwise, a sub-lease (so to speak) could be nice as well.

I'm sure it's different for large projects, but for my own work, if I wait until the app is "finished" (or at least in a workable state) before working on cross-browser compatibility, I hate my life and want to die. YMMV

I dunno, what about Chromebooks? Firefox OS seems like it's the same sort of idea, but targeted at phone instead of laptops.

If you use CoffeeScript, you might have to watch out for unexpected variables being created by the transpiler. For example, if you write a method that ends with a `while` loop, CoffeeScript will actually return an array with the evaluated r

Kind of disappointing for me; I doubt I'll read much of Topolsky's new work.

For optimum performance (especially games), you have to understand Javascript garbage collection pretty well; basically create all your objects up front in some sort of cache, to avoid stutter during GC. It's not impossible, but an ann

Yeah, I think they're a few years late to the party on this one. Nokia's low-end are also pretty inexpensive ( http://www.walmart.com/ip/AT-T-GoPhone-Nokia-Lumia-520-Pre-p... ).

Maybe stub out the backend with an Express app? Express seems simple enough that even if you're not familiar with it, you can still understand what it's trying to do.

Yeah, I stalled with my plain 'ol Javascript games after the Unreal Engine demos, since I assumed it'd just be a matter of time before Unity got a plugin-less web export.

Surprised no one has mentioned the "Visible Mars Bar" project yet: http://totl.net/VisibleMars/ Basically UK vs. US Mars/Milky Way bars.

I think benefit of iOS privacy controls is that you can still install the app, then simply deny it access to data. Android asks you for _all_ permissions up front: allow access or you don't get the app. See: recent flashlight app fiasc

This article neatly sums up my thoughts on asm.js. On the one hand, I really like the fact that Mozilla is doing a lot to promote Javascript (which I usually enjoy programming in). On the other, asm.js basically destroys any reason to write

Wat? One of the things I like about consoles is that they are plug 'n play. No fiddling with trying to get emulation settings just right.

Lots of hate for this idea, but makes perfect sense to me. I could buy an 8GB phone, decide later that I need more storage, then expand that with a 32GB SD card. No confusion as long as it's explained that the card is for expansion, no

Agreed. The iOS game I've spent the most time on is the port of Final Fantasy Tactics, which is an ancient PlayStation game. Even original Gameboy games have more depth than most iOS titles.

I can't understand why Gruber is still making this argument, even when Satoru Iwata has flat out said "no" to it. If Nintendo puts their games on other platforms, there goes any reason to buy Nintendo hardware. If Nintendo ha
