That’s Reddit. On HN I sometimes find people with niche interests and expertise in all kinds of fields, which I like. It’s also relatively civilized. You don’t need to be a 4-chan edgelord to be not-normie.

I stand somewhat corrected, but you have to admit that rule has never really been enforced.

They explicitly state in their developer agreement not to use notifications for ads.

Isn’t the justification of Apple that they have a monopoly on the App Store so they can protect users from notification abuse? In reality this is not enforced at all and even Apple themselves will send you ads.

I didn’t know this was true for the rest of Europe but it’s certainly true for Germany. At least in the US you have interesting personalities the likes you’ll find on podcasts. On the other hand the discourse in Germany isn’t nearly as extr

I don’t think you have a lot of experience with long software projects. The pros of frameworks are outweighed by their cons pretty quickly. This effect is accelerated by shorter support times and an ever growing number of frameworks.

I don't like the word pretentious. Pretending to be what? What I would agree to is that it isn't as deep as everyone recommending it making it out to be (I'm talking about the original, I haven't played the new version).

It’s fine. I mean Apple refunds you if the App you bought gets removed, right?

That's basically what I meant. But even taking all the ugly parts of C into consideration, they are shallow. You don't need to dig into 10 layers of abstraction to get to the bottom of things. And the example posted is about what

C is not that deep. In the end its just something that produces assembly/machine code: jumps, reads writes etc. you need to get a feeling for what the compiler outputs for a given input (try Godbolt!). Then you need to know how those o

I think part of the game actually ponders the question whether it’s actually enjoyable, so yeah, I recommend it!

It’s not a good sign for a company when these allegations become more plausible over time, which is definitely the case for Apple.

I love seeing old timers on the street. The ones that get preserved are usually so much more aesthetic than contemporary cars.

When I was young I listened through The Rolling Stones 100 best Rock Albums. The fact that Pet Sounds even made the top 10 was always baffling to me.

Exactly. So I’m paying 12$ a month, which is more than Netflix and still get ads. That’s actually the reason why I won’t get YT premium.

This basically boils down to: it's okay to inflict damage upon customers that don't make you money. That is not only unethical, it should be illegal. There is no way for a customer to know beforehand that this will happen to them,

“Scaling” a problem = Cutting down customer service and avoiding reputational damage through monopolies. A small corner shop could never get a away with the things the big players get away with.

Honest question: how can a game like Dark Souls (or Elden Ring which is already much easier and more approcheable) possibly convey the atmosphere of a dark, merciless world with an easy mode?

▲

An easy mode is not a curb cut. Options for color blindness, visual cues for hearing impaired, dyslexia friendly fonts or remappable controls are.

There’s a video of a guy beating an Elden Ring boss with his chin. I find your comment frankly insulting towards, as you put it, “differently abled consumers”.

This is also true for BOTW. My wife, who plays very little, grinds healing and stat increases before boss fights. I think the difficulty argument is just some dumb journo-take that guarantees easy outrage clicks.
