Do you know how hard it is to convincingly fabricate economic data? The BLS is under constant public scrutiny. If data fabrication were occurring at the level you seem to think, everybody would know.

Based on what evidence? The unemployment rate is very low, and has been for a long time. Why should we take your word for it when it blatantly contradicts real economic data?

What unemployment?? The unemployment rate right now is by all reasonable standards very low. Do you have any reason to believe unemployment will suddenly skyrocket? As a result of what factors? I hate to say it, but your analysis here seems

https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=49150561 Here’s some evidence that OpenAI is actively engaged in fraud. But I’m sure they wouldn’t commit any other crimes. Pretty sure, at least.

The whole site is suffering from AI psychosis.

LOL, we’ll see. Awful convenient that it precisely fits OpenAI’s narrative. At the very least, I think it’s obvious OpenAI is explicitly training models to exhibit this behavior.

No, this is wrong. If you read the report, the bulk of the job contraction was in industries entirely divorced from the tech sector. I don’t understand why you would make this comment without even reading the article, let alone the report i

LLMs most definitely are limited. What’s your position, that LLMs have no limits? That’s obviously wrong, and the fact you hold such an unreasonable position may be why you react so strongly to pieces like this one.

No one’s saying that relativity appeared out of thin air, but Einstein still made a conceptual leap that LLMs are incapable of replicating.

The worst thing about the AI boom is how tech bros feel comfortable abusing the goalpost fallacy. So annoying.

We have reason to believe consciousness cannot be replicated via computation, and reason to suspect consciousness is an important aspect of cognition. Now, what reason do you have for believing intelligence could be replicated computational

If HN is any indication, many devs have hilariously naive beliefs regarding economics and philosophy and will absolutely refuse to engage with actual arguments or experts within those fields.

This is so absurdly condescending and simultaneously incorrect that it astounds me you’re able to function as part of a society.

You’d think tech enthusiasts would actually make an attempt to understand the tech they’re enthusiastic about. OpenAI’s mysterianist marketing has broken some people’s brains.

This is a rationalization. The simpler explanation is that the model failed to properly depict the passage. As the AI booster crowd would say, cope.

You are correct. It’s important not to let hype peddlers imply AI possesses consciousness.

Daydreaming is absolutely storytelling. The average person is able to craft elaborate stories on a whim. Writing is used, in part, for conveying stories, but writing is a separate skill. The good news is the average person can learn to writ

Better than the mean human? The mean human creates far better stories while daydreaming. AI enthusiasts have such a distorted view of human capability, it’s bizarre.

It’s pretty clear that animals that don’t use a system of language are capable of reasoning. No need to over complicate things.

Good lord, why are you so angry that people are treating an obvious advertisement with due skepticism? Your post is chock full of emotional language - no one is “screeching” anything.

The solution is to stop treating AI as superhuman semi-living entities, as many boosters are apt to do. We can acknowledge it as a useful tool while understanding it has limits and is not “alive” or “thinking” in the same way a human is.
