Bazel has been significantly faster than cmake/make on the codebases I've tried it on. It has a bunch of warts, but it has been a better framework to build on than anything else I've encountered. I'm probably biased as I

I had an interior office with a solid door, walls covered in whiteboards, excellent monitors, good hardware, and a fast net connection. If I needed to ask someone something, I could send an email. If it was urgent, I could knock on someone&

The only times I see this argued is from suits looking to treat programmers as a fungible resource. This is never a problem for companies looking to retain people. If your status quo is working programmers as long as you can without a raise

It's not my responsibility as a library author to protect users from themselves. If they have leaks because they refuse to use my API then so be it. If you don't want to use with, you're free to call __enter__() and __exit__(

I don't think I've ever wanted SQL embedded in my Java source over loading it as a resource. Loading it as a resource allows me to edit the SQL in a sql-aware text editor.

My book store sold stamps in college, as did the convenience mart across the street. I never really needed to go to the post office, but you can always buy stamps (and mail weirdly shaped things) at the post office directly.
