Use anime character names. That way you have an excuse to collect cute artwork for these machines.

IIRC the plan is to have a proper self-hosted Git repo, and mirror it on GitHub.

This was maybe an issue back in the day but should be fixed now. logind has a PrepareForSleep event and a lock mechanism to let the lock screen show up before the machine goes to sleep.

This means you're no longer producing open-source software. You're now producing proprietary software.

Yup, the thing is called the wayland-protocols repository.

Nvidia still doesn't implement the de-facto standard API used by everybody else (GBM).

>Embedded doesn’t need wayland nor X.org It depends. In this particular case, the demo seems to contain a launcher which allows to start multiple apps and switch between them. A window manager sounds preferable in this case. Also, Flutte

KDE and Mir already implement some wlroots protocols. We (wlroots) try to get as many compositors as possible on board.

Yes, Xwayland lets users run X11 applications inside Wayland compositors.

The people who take decisions can take decisions because they contributed a lot to the project. If you want to take decisions too, there's no need to be part of a big company, all you need is getting involved. The ecosystem is still po

Nobody is forcing you to use Wayland. Nobody is arguing that X.org's server will disappear from the face of the earth.

Correction: on my compositor and all compositors implementing the protocols wlroots pushes forward. This includes Sway, but also all wlroots-based compositors, and for some protocols also KDE and Mir.

Shortcut keys are configured in the compositor, and screenshots/screencasts work in a cross-compositor fashion via xdg-desktop-portal.

Not really. There are hundreds of contributors not paid by anyone. Until 1 year ago I wasn't paid for my Wayland-related work. I'm now very lucky to have a company sponsor my contributions, but that's far from being the case

"Wayland" is just the protocol, can you give more details about your setup? For instance, GNOME is more heavyweight than say Sway (and gives a more feature-ful and eye-candy user experience in return).

You can thank Zoom for using the proprietary GNOME D-Bus API instead of xdg-desktop-portal. (And you can also thank Zoom for being bad in general, I guess.)

Yeah, the KMS docs need some love. I'm trying to help with that. But note that even with EGLStreams you'd still be using KMS. And GBM's API is pretty small, basically just gbm_bo_import/gbm_bo_create/gbm_bo_get_*.

I'm a wlroots developer, and I'm using an old Sandybridge mobile i5 CPU daily. So I'm pretty surprised about this. I'd be interested in a bug report if you were to try again.

This talk "The Real Story Behind Wayland and X" by Daniel Stone (a longtime X developer) may debunk some misconceptions in this thread: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RIctzAQOe44
