I mean the extent of my fighting is to type a comment in response to the post. I won't be organizing a group with signs and marching or anything.

You can continue to pretend otherwise, but this is an ideological infiltration into a supposedly rational field. Downvotes or not I'm not going to pretend otherwise.

I take extremely detailed hierarchical notes all day, using software similar to org mode. Enough that it isn't feasible to use handwriting. But when it comes to working out a particularly difficult problem, there's no substitute f

If there's something constructive to take from the somewhat brutal set of responses you've received, I'd say it's to strategically consider how to make this software friendly to the HN type of remote worker (those who va

The entire premise of the tool. There are developers who work full-time remote specifically to escape micro-managing aspects such as knowing exactly when you're sitting in your chair. Presumably you've built this for the other set

I've noticed this very consistently. It seems the users who jump on posts early are an entirely different sort from the users who wait for posts to gain some popularity. I could imagine various reasons why that may be the case, but the

I would quit any job which made me do this while working remotely. I've been a very successful full-time remote engineer for over a decade and this is incompatible with my workflow and quality of life considerations.

Do pendulums lose accuracy from seismic activity, people stomping on the floor, etc? Or does the nature of a pendulum naturally absorb that sort of interference?

In a way maybe that's good. The media doesn't tend to improve anything by reporting on it, they just poke and prod it until the good news gets made bad.

Odd, a recent Firefox update must have removed it because I've had it installed for ages and it was gone.

If the difference in performance of CAS vs TLS is a concern, you're likely better off using a thread per cpu and using 10,000 fibers with carefully managed stack sizes which doubly reduces that memory concern.

The main takeaway I got from this is how many ads managed to get through my adblocker. Impressive. Refused to read the article as a result though.

It's especially dangerous when you're cycling on the right side of the road and come across cyclist going the wrong way. Had this happen to me recently on a 55mph highway with no shoulder. The other cyclists didn't even take

What's the confidence level that the detection of phosphine is not some sort of false positive? I read the majority of the google cache and that aspect seemed to be glossed over.

Apps require the user to provide permissions. It seems like a non-story unless the app is hacking your phone for permissions you didn't explicitly grant during install.

The progression isn't particularly mind blowing, though. Once somebody notices a buffer overflow / register pollution of some sort, you note which area of memory it's executing and then reverse engineer how to modify that mem

One issue with PGO is you are optimizing for the particular subset of use cases which are profiled, on the exact machine you profile on. The 2% quoted improvement will not necessarily generalize across all use cases for the software and all

I take it this is a form of profiler guided optimization? Does MSVC already do this during its PGO? It seems like an obvious thing to do.
