Uh, what? Your parent essentially complained that US immigration, institutionally, favors low quality immigrants over high quality. It's hard to fathom how you don't consider this an example of that.

Nevertheless. One issue is that the US probably has a much higher segment of the population that's at least a standard deviation below average in IQ than European nations do. I'd love to see Finland work with our IQ distribution. Low IQ dem

Riiight. You were in such danger of being voted down when you came out against software patents on Hacker News. I don't like software patents or RMS; can't there be a sane middle ground?

Why is adding a property to a function "pollution"? Functions are objects and the sooner you learn it, the better. My objects have properties for whatever I need them to. I don't feel bad that I can define objects without tons of boilerplat

I don't trust a scientist who's "usually fuming inside". People who fume inside are people who are already pretty sure they're right about everything, which is not an appropriate disposition for a scholar.

You sound critical. Is black culture in America a success? The basic approach to reverse a bad culture is to take its saplings and replant them. Academics don't like this for one reason or another, maybe it seems too easy, but hey, crazy th

Speaking only for myself as a US citizen, I'm proud of the fact that the US has led the world in per capita income the last few decades. For a country our size to consistently be number 1 or near the top (depending on who's doing the analys

Your tone almost makes it sound like you disagree with me, even though my comment agrees with yours. I'm well aware of the research that shows that people who believe effort is more important than talent are more successful than those who t

Yep, and my point stands. No amount of effort allows you to start, say, github.com if you don't also have skill. Now, you can say that you can acquire skill from effort, and that's certainly true, but someone else who puts in the same effor

There is absolutely scads of research showing that boys and girls are different from day 1. Boy and girl infants react differently to the same stimuli in controlled experiments. I'm not doing your research for you, though; look it up.
