I think the "can't marshall any evidence to support this claim" is pretty critical here, because the vast majority of developers who actually write software for the Mac have loved it since OS X came out. They've loved Cocoa and they loved t

In real life, virtually no one uses true ad hominem. No on says, "he is a jerk, therefore he's wrong." In my book, using insults and connotative (negative) language rather than strictly denotative is on the ad hominem scale. It is absolutel

When gmail was launched it used exclusivity to vastly improve its desirability. I'm 100% certain exclusivity can be used to sell virtual goods. You just have to figure out how to harness it.

Well, it's not research, but G Gordon Liddy's autobiography Will shows one person's regimen for successfully developing a high degree of willpower. It might be a little over the top, though. For example, while in prison he burns a hole thro

Hacker News' purpose is not only to bounce ideas off of other startup founders, so if you're reading that signal meter, it will naturally be a bit noisy. From the guidelines: On-Topic: Anything that good hackers would find interesting. That

Do you read scientific journals much? Papers are usually filled with long, grammatically complex sentences full of obscure technical jargon. Given the subject matter, it seems a bit silly to hold the author to a different standard.

It's disappointing that the highest rated comment is essentially ad hominem. I've been aware of the CTMU for many years and was hoping smart folks would engage his ideas. Sadly, it appears the intellectual insecurity here is as great as tha

Well, no kidding. Which was part of my point. A summary of someone's views is not a substitute for the real thing. This is true for Ayn Rand as well, but folks who hate her don't like to admit this. (Disclosure: I'm not remotely a Randian.
