I'll agree with aaronbrethorst here: your books are going to out-dated regardless; it's the major downside to software hardcopy these days, especially web-focussed stuff. Saying that, Rails 3.0 to 3.1 isn't like 2.x to 3.0 (where your books

Just to add: you can listen to Siracusa's comments re: Merlin on Hypercritical [1]. Also worth listening to is Merlin's own podcast (with Dan Benjamin) called Back to Work [2]. A lot of his recent talk has been about his book, the challenge

A short, but well written article that does a good job of taking on the "full meltdown" hysteria that some news organisations seem to clutch on to. Granted, the situation at Fukushima isn't good, but "meltdown" seems to trigger the idea of

That's not a fair statement — branding all nuclear energy technology as a means to generate material for weapons is incorrect. A good example? Thorium reactors [1], which generate very little in the way of weapons-grade by products. Why is

I would say that their metrics are more likely to show the majority of dev-channel users are on Windows, purely because of volume. Might be a smaller fraction than Linux users, but the actual figure would be larger.

We have a lot of these issues here in Australia thanks to the Australia-United States Free Trade Agreement (AUSFTA) [1] — though to be fair, that's not the only cause. Thankfully, due to the way statutory damages are legislated here, we hav

My 11" Air plays lower bit-rate 1080p stuff fine (ie. Apple's movie trailers site), even on an external display. Of course, with a sub-2.13Ghz C2D it will definitely struggle on higher bit-rate content, so I wouldn't be surprised at all.

I'll always wonder when keyboard manufacturers will replace the 'Windows button' with something more universal. Pressing Windows + key in a non-Windows operating system always seems so counter-intuitive to the everyday user.

Django likes to call it 'MTV', or Model-Template-View. Templates are similar to Rails' Views (markup with variables/tags) & Views are similar to Rails' Controllers (methods used to validate/process data coming from/going to the Model).
