I'm interested to know this as well. With the success of Heroku for Rails deployment, there's definitely room for a parallel player in the Django market — and probably the opportunity to make a lot of money, too.

That they kept the optical drives wasn't a surprise. For most of us (power-users) — who download software and/or use disk images — it's not a necessity, but a lot of regular Joe's still burn CD's/DVD's. I've had a lot of people look at a Ma

I'd also argue that consumers are savvy enough to predict a new iPhone coming out later this year — after all, it has been on a yearly cycle since its launch. They may be holding out for a new release rather than committing to a contract/se

Python certainly has lambdas[1], and they're very 'typical' lambdas at that. [1]: http://www.secnetix.de/olli/Python/lambda_functions.hawk

I think a couple of things are obvious, from knowing some Nokia employees: a) These 9 are young, and likely Finns — who are generally proud people and who are guarded against outsiders (like Elop) b) They are software developers. Most of th

For a site like Quora though, I believe that things should be obvious enough that instructions aren't needed. They're not there yet, but that's what they should be aiming for.

I pay Slicehost USD$20/m for a 256MB VPS + DNS hosting, and I've never had unexpected downtime. Yes, this means I'm doing the sys-admin work myself - but for hosting my own site & static media, it's pretty straightforward. The best part

Sometimes it's worth either paying someone for the convenience (ie. paying a decent provider) or doing it yourself. 55% uptime is horrible, but I'd suggest that instead of complaining you either shell out some more & move away (Drupal d

That's a lot of bands. MySpace is still popular with musicians because it's easily templatable, it allows them to easily showcase their work (songs), detail upcoming shows and their fan-bases are typically familiar with it already. Yes, MyS

The major downtime sucked, and the minor hiccups still continue to suck. But I think we also need to realise it's free. It doesn't excuse the lack of communication, but lofty expectations of uptime for a service that's offered freely seem a

Exactly. Many people freak out when Jobs is away, but Cook + team (ie. Forstall, Mansfield, Johnson) proved themselves last time Jobs was away for an extended period of time. I'd always be interested to know who would run the company if Job

I hear you. I used to receive > 100 emails a day — some automated, but most thanks to Cc and mailing lists. I'd either read them in batches, or file them for 'later'. As long as that 'later' list was under ~10, I was in control. For my
