We have better ways to do things now - adhesives, new welding techniques that impose different design constraints, etc. IIRC there was some thought of reusing parts of the Saturn V design on the Artemis program but it was not practical beca

Another, closely related example: A lot of the welding abilities needed to build another Saturn V were lost. We couldn’t replicate the rocket without having a lot of people relearn old welding techniques.

Even if every bottle used this year was buried full, it would only be 0.06 cubic miles of water. Earth's lakes alone have about 20,000 cubic miles of fresh water, while there are millions of gallons of fresh groundwater.

I bet this tape would still work though given that his application doesn’t require high strength or residue-free removal. The correct/ideal tapes will be called “refractory tapes.” They are essentially clay-like strips.

They truly are amazing. My first time choosing a specialty adhesive, following all the instructions for surface prep, and then testing the strength of that joint - I was blown away.

Why should a company that provides no differentiated value have much of net margin (after paying for the cost of capital, in the form of debt payments which are included in company expenses)? Kroger et. al provide no unique value - they don

This makes sense to me. Thanks for the explanation. I guess getting a physically accurate simulation to run in real time would be quite difficult.

Virtual pinball machines (like tables with screens instead of an actual play-field) have all this but they are still not the same.

I haven't tried VR but I have used virtual pinball tables with all the bells and whistles (e.g. thumper solenoids). I still don't find it that fun.

It's amazing to me how virtual and real pinball are really not comparable at all in terms of enjoyment (at least for me personally). I still don't really understand why.

Reading this article a couple years back got me to really question why I was planning to move far away from my parents and spend so little time with them. Changed some life plans based on that.

Who cares? As long as someone can shut it off when needed (e.g. at work) this is something that does not matter at all.

It honestly makes me so sad to see how people judge each other for living with their parents. I often read/contribute to r/PersonalFinance on Reddit the most common attitude there seems to be that people living with their pares st

I agree with this. The penalties should be sized such that every company feels that safety is their top priority without any company being driven out of business for a properly addressed accident.

OSHA penalties are laughably low. Willful and repeated violations only cost a maximum of $150k/per incident, while serious but non-willful/first time violations are capped at about $14k/incident. The real money can be in work

Who's to say the intent? I've published lots of code with very permissive licenses and I did so because I want people to be able to use that code for any reason . That's why I choose those licenses.

I just don't understand this at all. I publish my code as open source when I can because I want others to find it useful, either by using the software that I wrote or by reusing the code. If I didn't want that, I wouldn't p

Might you not use some fuel for countermeasures during the midcourse phase?

Well, for ballistic missiles a large portion of the flight will be the mid-course phase (which is typically unpowered) and the terminal phase may use control surfaces for maneuvering. For cruise missiles that's a good rule of thumb.
