Well, Chromium is FOSS so you can distribute it with your application if that need arises.

I wrote a detailed set of articles for GameDev back at the time (2004) that goes the whole way - full regex matcher (for simple regexes) including NFA/DFA construction. First two articles: * http://eli.thegreenplace.net/files/docs/forays/c

Hmm, sounds to me like one of those "Flask vs. Django" arguments - Flask has less features, hence it's more flexible and better.

Hmm... right, it was something with a C in it, but not sure what! Come on! Don't you have a constructive comment?

Of course C doesn't "explain" how things work. C is a language, it doesn't explain anything. However, when you write and read real-life C code, you have a chance to learn how software works under the hood much better than with higher-level

Great article - thanks for sharing. It's a shame that most comments here respond to the title of the article and not its contents. Hint: it's not what you think

Nice. As a side-note, here's a related article on implementing a Python generator "for real" using the C API: http://eli.thegreenplace.net/2012/04/05/implementing-a-gener...

I always found this argument lacking. In any language you can build the necessary abstractions for higher expressiveness. Sometimes these reach things like auto-generating code from a DSL, but in the long run if a good team is working on a

How can it be 100% faster at anything? This is mathematically impossible. If a task used to take 100 seconds, 1 second (an unlikely improvement!) is just 99% faster.

I really dislike the term "up to N%" - this reminds me of sleazy commercials reporting "up to 80% discount". 0.2% is also "up to 100%". Can't more accurate figures be reported?

Yes, but an article about "the fall and rise of programming languages", in particular, that mentions Tiobe right at the start makes it clear that it's going to base its conclusions and observations on that worthless index. Search HN for Tio

Having kids also helps you with the "walking" aspect. A daily walk around the 'hood with a stroller, and at a later age combined with some "culture-dependent ball game" time, gives you some "free" opportunities to burn them calories. P.S. b

Isn't this just a simple matter of probability? Given an event, however unprobable it is, it can happen given infinite time? From a purely mathematical standpoint, this is correct.

I disagree with the beginning of your second paragraph. Even when coding just in Python, a solid understanding of the fundamental data structures and algorithms is very important for writing efficient code. Without it, one can't understand

Yes, for a language as widely deployed and used as Python, retaining backwards compatibility and stability is more important than adding new and shiny tools to the stdlib at a faster pace. Users rely on the fact that a module in stdlib will
