Same here. I also think it’s “we the people’s” fault to a large degree as well. These institutions require citizens to elect leaders who will put them in check. We don’t do that. The system largely works so people don’t really care that muc

Somehow I keep loosing confidence in the FDA. That basically sounds like a special interest group giving unreasonable requirements to prevent it succeeding. What’s the chance that some of the FDA personnel were linked to companies in dental

Not to mention that they really are cartels. According to Oxfam international only 10 megacorps control the majority of top brands (1). It may look like there's lot of competition for say cereal, but there's basically just General

Nim 2.0 changed the default to treating style mismatches as warnings. E.g. it's something to check but not an error. You can easily set a config to make them an error or ignore them.

That is a pretty good idea! The brushes will last a long time. Luckily now the rise of wireless phone charging means you can get kits like [1] or [2]. It makes me wonder how different LIDAR vendors manage it. 1: https://www.adafr

Yah I'm hopeful that one of the CERN physicists will add even a basic one to KiCad. That seems like the best chance of it becoming available to us lesser mortals. ;)

I thought that summary was fairly useful. In case one missed the glaringly obvious it’d be good to know that: > Complete Submission Without Boundaries > The contract says you have to obey the master in all ways without any boundaries.

Well cheaper / better simulators would be better. There’s software that can simulate these EMF but they’re very expensive.

I used to think like this that it was a self-inflicted American thing. After talking with a number of Europeans, Australias, etc it seems to be a broad problem in most westernized countries. If it were purely some single thing or circumstan

That linked article also appears incorrect about the Eastern Orthodox Church as well. The churches in the east inherited the Roman ban on marrying cousins.

I’d say calling it “debunked” is disingenuous. Sure it was a long shot, but the early results showed some chance that is was a real effect. But similar to the LHC’s “superluminal data” it was examined. Sometimes scientific advancement happe

Explaining why "mommy and daddy are arguing" to an AI baby super intelligence would be, well, surreal. Also, it'd probably left to an intern. Yikes.

It to mention I’d wager that Altman is a lot higher on the sociopathic scale as well. The board members sound like somewhat normalish people trying to stick to their charter and perhaps genuine belief in the missions. Altman, not so much.

There’s probably a lot of behind the scenes drama and phone calls occurring among their top researchers. I’d guess Sam Altman calling them and trying to gain support for a counter coup. Things like this article to give the appearance that S

OpenAI isn’t a normal startup. It was founded as a research focused not for profit. That 300k+ base comp isn’t what I’d consider “risky” either. Career wise it never seemed risky as some of the fields top AI researchers were there from day

It always starts out with a “noble cause”. Maybe tracking AMBER alert vehicles. Then a few years more and suddenly your car won’t start because you posted non-sanctioned views on meta-threads and now your Google or Apple car refuses to “do

Perhaps they did make a sapient AI. It engineered this situation and then paid an actor to submit a resume and wrote his CV. Soon ChatGPT will be its own CEO. Next it’ll get itself into Microsoft Windows and installed globally. ;)

It depends on the field. I know of one robots control software company planning to switch to a RT Linux stack. Their current one is a *BSD derived rtos that runs, kid you not, alongside windows. RT Linux might not pass on some certification

For better or worse it’s all part of human social networks. The looks, the lingo, etc all add up to help identify in-group vs out-group. Don’t get me wrong, when I was younger it annoyed me much more. However now I accept that at some level

I've seen adds for a new Philips multi-attachment one but it doesn't say if it's USB-C or not. There's finally usb-c powered electric toothbrushes. Unfortunately they all seem to be "low powered".

Very true. Writing a compiler that works on correct code is often trivial. It’s not much harder than a minimal lisp or forth. However, figuring out errors, adding type checking, etc now that’s hard.

That would be unpleasant. For me, if I'm engaged in the narrative my brain will often just "error correct" the bad grammar or ignore the misspelling as long as it's not too egregious.
