Love the podcast! But this seems just way too broad, basically what I would see in a curated local book store that I have anyway. Maybe this was the intention, but seeing all those books without the context why they were originally recomm

I would calculate that the probability of a mathematician doing anything practical like operating a gun is even lower than the probability that I could solve the riddle (even with pen, paper, wikipedia and a liter of coffee on a good day),

Every few years some technocrat looks at the organizational chart of a company and yells "why is this not a machine yet". And then the next 5 years people have to come up with elaborate ways how to do the actual work inside the ar

That's nice too, but it seems to be more a tour of the code base, and doesn't have the detailled diagrams of memory layout that the Ruby book and the one posted here have.

This looks quite nice. I always wished there was something like "Ruby Under a Microscope" for Python (and other languages). It was quite instrumental for my deeper understanding of the language.

> TLDR: Logseq is free but Logseq Pro (coming soon) is not. https://docs.logseq.com/#/page/faq My original point was that I don't want this kind of software that has an incentive to nag you into an upsell.

Hm, it looks nice too, but that's another "freemium open source" app with a pro version that will eventually be enshittified, I would bet.

This is one of the main reasons why I have mostly given up on paid software or SaaS products. You would think that by paying someone for their product, that would give you the tool without constantly getting asked for more, like some sharew

I don't really mind the email interface that much, my main issue is that most RSS clients have it exclusively, without any second level of automatic filtering/sorting/triage. For many feeds that I subscribe, I'm only int

Meta, but why does the HN title change the kuril . in domain into just `kuril` here? edit: interestingly, that happens even in comments.. edit 2: ouch, yes, that was some extension.

This reads like either a plot device for a "Curb Your Enthusiasm" episode or a report of what happened at some private party before one of the participants decided to kill all the others.

For the sake of completeness: That Harper Voyager complete stories volume 1 is now also sold as "Living Space and other stories", just bought it in that version.

This is really cool, but what on earth do you do with it? It would be a full time job to read all the posts from this stream, and their titles are not editorialized like on HN, so it's much harder to filter by title.

Same. I organize my phone into screens by topic (apps and some widgets), that allows me to keep a mental model without remembering app names etc. Will probably be hard to find a 1:1 replacement for Nova Launcher, if it enshittifies :/

I wonder if thereis a good explanation why emojis have had such an overproportional impact on LLM output. The em dashes I get, they are quite typical for formal writing, but I have never seen many examples of emoji-littered documents outsid
