I don't know, types help me think. I get lost real soon without them and the reason why I could never pick up any Lisps. In Scala/Haskell I can come up with a solution incrementally and types are the biggest reason why. I always h

One thing fundamentally broken on xiaomi phones is GCM. So if you are not whatsapp or Facebook (they have pre configured exceptions) and you need push notifications, you have no options. You can't even have a persistent connection beca

STM is awesome but a single node solution. Distributed transactions are a hard problem.

Also in the STM example, they only ever read sender's balance and never the receiver's balance.

I was under the impression that STM, being an opportunistic (success biased) concurrency primitive, was faster than explicit locking. Isn't it more performant? I remember I saw in a talk given where in that benchmark STM was as fast as

I have no idea so couldn't say. My point was not to compare them but to say FP is big in complicated software writing be it any FP language.

I find that statement hard to believe when so much complicated software in the industry is built using Scala/Haskell/OCaml not to mention so much of research. (STM is an example of how some complicated stuff is solved easily using

Either that statement is incorrect or I am misunderstanding one of C++ or Haskell very wildly.

Maybe yes, You can not learn Haskell in one day, if that was your point. My point is learning Haskell takes time and it's hard and it is totally understandable if for some people that is not a good investment.

It's not the same thing. A similar comparison would be: - Learn Javascript before you learn React etc.. - Learn Python before you learn Django etc .. - Learn LANGUAGE before you learn FRAMEWORK

My father, sisters would disagree. I only had Linux on the home computer for last 7-8 years. There are absolutely no support requirements, because it keeps on working the same way with no surprises. They can not setup windows, macOS, linux

Aren't safari extensions vetted before they can be hosted by apple? I am asking because the page mentions it will be available on safari extension store eventually. Will that still be a problem?

I find that claim very strange. Who is asking you to spend your money? Is paying tax or not taking bribes about mindsets? I save up and I pay taxes and nobody can force me to spend money I don't want to.

You need one of Aadhaar Card, Pan Card, Ration Card etc to open a bank account. I give up arguing about "nobody will have undeclared cash of more than 10 lacs". It's hard to challenge faith with reason.

I find it hard to believe that people with more than 1000000 in cash won't be bothered to deposit it in banks because they live somewhere where no banks and post offices exist. Government would be least of my worries with that much lia
