On the contrary, all the good langs have a js backend. Wouldn't you love to use purescript/haskell/Scala/ocaml for cross platform GUI apps? I know I desperately want such a thing :)

Sorry, I meant prominent apps like geary (from a comment here), gedit and empathy. When I was using Linux those were big names and I couldn't imagine any one of them going unmaintained.

Perhaps you are not aware of it. I am not talking about electron. I am talking about react native. Emphasis on "native". Please look it up.

Downvoters, please explain your view. In my opinion it's a future proof way of getting more mindshare and applications. The unmauntained apps list is not short.

I just use the libreoffice in App Store. It's older but for my needs it suffices.

Used You Broadband a few years ago. Awesome service. Had no problems whatsoever with the level of encryption of anything. This is most probably an outdated law requiring them to have this clause. I am pretty sure banking rules and regulatio

What do you mean? Am I wrong in thinking weapon systems should not be running known (extremely?) vulnerable systems?

Sometimes truth really is stranger than fiction. This is not an old computer producing colours in a paint shop. This is on a war machine, can't believe it.

If I can't believe that they are following the law, my data is already public. I remember there was a debate sometime back where income tax info was needed to decide whether you qualify for certain subsidies or not and there was no way

I think the Income Tax department can do the dedup themselves right? Seems easy, no different pan cards can have the same aadhar number? Income tax records are protected by very strict laws already.

I am in the wait and watch camp. So far aadhar has shown promise and benefits. I am also in the "make it compulsory for income tax" group. For privacy, they will get their act together I hope (plug leakages if any). If they don&#x

Ok, didn't know that. It's upto him how he wants to do it. But really a generic post without naming anyone would also get the point across, just my opinion.

Did I miss something? Should you give someone feedback on a public post? Writing generically about something you noticed would be fine but to specifically talk about a project, I don't know, I would feel super uncomfortable if it was d

In the comments the author says, it's not happening. "Wayland network transparency will likely be handled at the compositor level, and not in libwayland, so this work never evolved beyond a proof of concept."

Why is it not ok to be complicated/complex if it's worth it? People do not complain about the complexity of a car compared to a cart, it's just doing much much more. It's ok to want a cart for whatever reason but I don&#

In my opinion you are mostly describing Scala. Mutability and impurity is trivially easy to do in Scala. You may see that as a positive or a negative. Local mutability is definitely easier. Complexity of Scala comes from mixing OO and FP wo

It looks like you dislike the haskell like usage of Scala, I wonder how could you then produce types so complicated/weird that you crashed the compiler in 100 lines (In 4 years I have seen it crash only once in an unreleased version of

You last point is probably true. In every application I have ever deployed I only ever set the Xmx and J-Server settings, I never faced any problems. You need to give the GC some breathing room though.
