Trying to find terrorists based on whether or not they are standing up makes no sense at all. If you actually tried to "run" that scenario, you'd be tackling a lot of people who just couldn't hold their pee anymore.

This trick is also useful... * for working on airplanes - easier on the eyes in the low light and your batteries last longer. * for messing with anyone with a Mac. Just walk over and invert their colors. :)

Max - what's with the picture above your post? Not sure I understand what you're trying to say with it. Edit: Nevermind. It's late and I skimmed your post too quickly.

Brilliant. Along with being a classy holiday message, it's great social proof that startups are happy with them.

Is this real science? I'm all about studies about germs, cleanliness and health, but I lost confidence when I read this: "The research took advantage of a longitudinal study of Filipinos, following participants in utero through 22 years of

It's not about someone telling you when to be creative, it's that you can take charge of the creative process through intentional practice. The best authors don't wait around hoping they'll have a breakthrough, they sit down every morning

Actually, it could have been a little less "I'm proud to say" and "I'm pleased to have the chance"... When you(r country) messed up and it's your duty to apologize, don't be proud and pleased. Simply be sorry.

An example of pointing to the one big measurable thing "Hey, no big ugly power plant in the countryside" and missing the sum effects of 100,000 real actual people having these in their basements. It will "save" money, but actually each of t

One of the lessons learned was that there was another option, he simply didn't see it (ie. tell his commanding officer about his problems -- ask for help). Running away was the best option he could conceive of, not the right one. Thanks f

You're right to point out that this activity has a reasonably high environmental cost, but the value of this idea is in its RELATIVE merits. Will they do something interesting/worthy/influential/etc enough to merit the cost. As a practical

I would imagine Twitter scares Google. For the first time ever, there are questions for which Google isn't the best place to type out your query. "What do people think of X?" "What's happening in _country_" etc. Google determines quality ba

I find this truth most oppressive when traveling. Leaving the laptop at home relieves the heaviness of worry that someone will steal it, and it's easier to leave work behind if you're so inclined. You're free.

This is an interesting data point, however one key factor in repeating positive affirmations is the repetition. I'm not sure you can discredit the idea with a one-time test like this. It's kind of like getting a bunch of people to do push-

It sounds like a fun experiment, but hard to control for the fact that your decisions, your "effective IQ", etc. are all greatly affected by being tired. This would let you do more stuff, but you were doing it all sub-optimally.

The responsibility makes starting a company ... more cautious. Not so much harder but you have to be more careful. As for motivating, absolutely. You will get more done in less time, when that's all you have. ;)

Self-directed play is where the child isn't playing according to "rules". Where there's no "right" or "wrong" way to play, and the child is making up their own game/world/etc as they go. Think "Lego" :)
