>> Yeah, things have changed in recent years in HK. HSBC HK has a horrible reputation now and they are very resistant to do corporate account openings and prefer your company is resident or doing business in HK. Good to know.

This is good advice. Mind though that in the south the digital nomad community isn't as strong as it is in Chiang Mai.

I have not found it difficult to get a corporate bank account and merchant account in the past in Hong Kong with HSBC. Yes you have to go there in person but I don't see this as a big deal. We had CC processing and your agents should h

Yup it's really frustrating and ineffective to form a company here in Thailand. They really don't want all that startup money even though they could really make use of it. Try Hong Kong, Singapore or other stable and modern countr

You don't need the US for that though. You can incorporate for example in Hong Kong with ease and even better tax advanteges. For digital nomads in Thailand I think the bigger problem is that they can't get long term visas and are

For banking purposes you can already be befined as a US person by just having a US phone number, mailing address or generate some brokerage gains from any US business.

I'd have to copy a whole page of various things that make you fall into that definition. Citizens and residents obviously are such US persons but there are others like having a US phone number. See my comment above.

A very nice product it seems. But people should be aware that having a US business, bank account and so on makes you a "US person" in the eyes of the US government which comes with downsides. If you recently tried to open a bank a

I'd be also interested in a bit of info why Ceph and GlusterFS disappointed you. I tried GlusterFS a few years ago and it took a good while to figure out the right setup but in the end had disappointing small file performance. Ceph was

One thing I am missing with this and similar tools like re:dash is the ability to specify placeholders that get filled by information from a dropdown or date selector. That simple feature opens up usage to non-developers who just need to vi

To the downvoters: may I ask for a reason? Are you saying blindly copying people is a good thing? I don't get it.

That's another problem. Maybe adult people shouldn't have role models that they blindly copy in every way.

They don't have to expect it or even accept it. They can, if they want to. But they could as well just tell Linus he's a jerk. Or filter out the technical aspects of his post and ignore the rest. Or stop working with Linus. But th

I had the same feeling about the last bit of the article. Drama for no reason. I would be glad if the tech community focused more on tech than on shitstorms. Some people are just too sensitive. If you don't like how Linus behaves, then

What are you using LevelDB for? I hope not the main KV store. Do you use 2PC or something like Raft to handle distributed transactions? From the docs it sounds like everytime a node joins/leaves the cluster goes into a (brief?) unstabl

Git does not need any centralized server. Git is fully distributed. It is a DVCS, D standing for Distributed. That some/many organizations tend to centralize parts of Git, doesn't mean that Git itself is inherently centralized.

Any such open source tools are welcome. How does it compare to re:dash? https://github.com/EverythingMe/redash Metabase seems to have a GUI to construct SQL queries which re:dash doesn't. What else is different?

It's a bit hidden on the page in the documentation so I'll write it here to save people time: NetSurf doesn't support Javascript properly. For some that might be OK but for most it'll be a showstopper.

Ok so you can switch between at-most-once and at-least-once guarantees. While nice to have both options in a message queue, my point still stands. Each of these have trade-offs and the way it is architectured here, in the at-least-once case

Note that this also means that messages can be delivered more than once and/or that the clients need to remember the messages that they processed. In some setups that can be a showstopper.

Why would you choose a LSM Tree based storage mechanism for a message queue? The only reason I can come up with would be because it's a read-to-use library you can just plug in which gives OK performance and some handy features because
