I didn't honestly find it ruinously distracting, but it was a handicap. Much of the work I did at the time relied on interacting with a team of developers while I was remote. Slack allowed me to ask and answer questions asynchronously,

I think you're making a faulty assumption. 100 messages is not 100 people. It could be 5 short conversations; it could be a couple of long ones. 1 message != 1 person.

I have a feeling that companies using Slack that don't have retention polices - for compliance with Sarbanes–Oxley etc - probably have no issue with content disappearing. It's something we at Redfin only recently have had to deal

A more accurate title would probably have been "Slack's default settings are awful, and you're probably using it wrong", but that just isn't quite as catchy, you know? I will say that I disagree a bit with your anal
