It could have been done with software updates only, to routers and hosts. The problem is, you can't just update IOS on your routers, you also have to add IPv6 configuration to the routers. If two 32 bit addresses are talking to each other,

Neither do some kindles and most other e-readers. Or iPod touches. Or the mp3 player. They always say, "anything with an on/off switch."

Nope. Why force people to turn off their kindles but not close their books?

Let's say insurance is $400/mo. If my insurance application can never be denied, why would I pay $400/mo when I don't need it? I would wait until I was sick or injured, then buy insurance. If you force insurance companies to always provide

It means I can deduct it from my income. You are confusing it with a tax credit. If you think there are legions of taxpayers who don't get this, you are mistaken.

If all HTML 5 browsers supported h.264 ubiquitously, nobody would care about VP8.

$12b divided by 132k positions = $92k/position (which also includes energy costs, rent, etc). You think it's too much? Those 132k positions also include support staff as well as junior colleges. Yes, $92k/position average is too much.

I believe this is one of the advantages of 64 bit architectures. That meg of stack size is just a reservation, it's not actually used, unless your thread really needs it. On a 64 bit machine there is plenty of space to allocate.

It sounds like you are thinking of VP6, not VP8 which On2 also owns. VP8 is apparently better than H.264. There is also reason to believe Google won't stop there. Spending $2 million per day: http://pulse2.com/2009/04/14/google-spending

Chrome for mac still doesn't scroll as smoothly as safari. It's most noticeable on a macbook using two finger scrolling. I keep checking to see if they've improved it, I hope it isn't some unavoidable side effect of their design.

Google will probably do a better job in every way, including security, than the city of L.A. I'm sure leaks from city employees or people stealing physical paper will far outweigh any IT related leak. The funniest thing about this article

IPSec probably introduces too much latency for DNS. As far as I know, DNSCurve doesn't add any additional packets to the transfer. One packet request, one packet response. I doubt IPSec works that way.
