IMO intent is everything. Selling at a loss isn’t bad. Selling at a loss to build marketshare or kill competition usually is. The issue is that previous companies usually use this aspect to build marketshare, so there is no other way to com

Win16/Win32 is going the way of the dinosaur. Many of those devs have retired or moved on. I am personally a huge fan of win32. I was even a ReactOS contributor at one point because of this. That being said, it wasn’t scalable without

Thankfully, it is open source! Dig in! :D You guys really should gift some kudos to Microsoft. As crappy as they can be, they often open source stuff. Also, TIL that this apparently been open sourced for years.

Unsure if what you posted is true because I don’t know about water based systems, however this has been proven false for heat pumps. Specifically, setting a fixed temp vs turning things up/down/off when you are leaving and reversi

Terrible idea. Why is it that all the big browser makers are doing stupid stuff? I don’t want to specify styles for all my content. For some content, I want to use browser defaults. Sure, now it is just H1, but just wait…

Win32 says hi. I know a lot of folks here don't like Microsoft, but it is the one API that refuses to die.

Agreed, however, I took the headline to mean software devs are willing to drop money to a friend/colleague, and only after the fact. Probably just me though.

NGL I like it. Definitely illustrates the bubble we are in. AI has it’s uses, and vibe coding isn’t one of them (except maybe basic prototypes ) and based on the nightmares I’ve seen, not even that. The majority of a developer’s job isn’t

I would love to work for a company like that. It seems like my experience with companies that have “people” vs folks with engineering experience is worse overall. My favorite jobs had all engineering talent, and management was smart enough

I was in this space (out of work now) for 20 years and at the end things just got bonkers. The best companies I have worked for don’t even have a hands on coding project. At worst they have a SIMPLE take home project to test critical thinki

Your argument assumes there is meaningful competition to begin with. In the case of groceries, a few big companies ultimately control nearly all of it. They know you “need” groceries, so they will happily pass along the increased cost. What

lol no, I have worked with companies that do that. Many developers have very specific personality types, and they also think in technical terms rather than customer terms. It isn’t a bad thing, it is why they are good at what they do. The m

You only got that half right, fyi. Companies will choose to settle if they think there is a good possibility to lose if it goes to trial. If they suspect they will win, they will absolutely pursue, because they can counter-sue in many areas

Disagree. Most of my web browsing is done on mobile (iPhone). iOS has many different ad blockers, including system wide ones that are VPN based. I use a good one that even blocks Youtube ads.
