They're not doing that to plan things, it's used intentionally for PR. Drive fear into those that watch it and recruit others who are excited. Pretty clear those are different.

It's like Salesforce, that crap is ubiquitous in large companies. Have you ever used it? It's a nightmarishly clunky piece of trash and yet Salesforce is a 150B behemoth.

It's also terrifying that it's possible we could create a godlike AI that is entirely unconscious.

You might be misunderstanding that debate then because what's usually termed Libertarian Free Will which is the type that most people think they subjectively experience, that is the ability to choose from different paths at any given m

But spherical cows are actually reasonable approximations. Economics is astrology hiding behind dense math to parade as a science. It is not.

Well that's the point. The right way to think of bitcoin is a digital version of gold. It's mostly being used for speculation and as a store of value by some.

The supply isn't changing, only the rewards for mining are.

I'm sure the majority of volume is from speculators. I think Bitcoin really is basically a Digital Gold, with a finite supply and creation rate.

Completing the mining of 1 block of bitcoin now rewards half as many bitcoins as it used to. Bitcoin hyper-bulls think this is a massive event and believe it will lead to Bitcoin rocketing to $300K-$500k by next year. Bitcoin increased in v

"Substantial", maybe. I don't recall any major papers this year about efficiency in NeurIPS, ICLR, etc. Nevertheless I think my point on "the wider Deep Learning community" not focusing on efficiency is correct.

Clearly downward? If you don't have to work at an office in the Bay Area why would you continue paying $3K/mo in Rent or praying your startup has a good exit so you can pay $1M cash for a starter house?

Possibly, but I didn't see anything in the paper about energy efficiency vs a similar software implementation of their neural net and I don't think the wider Deep Learning community really has spent much time thinking about energy

It was true for decades before the mid 70s when productivity and wages decoupled. The reason why isn't clear but there was certainly the expectation that wages would increase for half a century in the US. https://www.epi.org

Speaking of abuse of statistics, lumping the bottom 20-40% with the top 60-80% of wage earners is extremely deceptive. It's well known that income growth is wildly different for those groups. Inflation adjusted wages for the median wor
