Dual booting isn't so bad, I've almost always had a gaming partition somewhere, while my current install doesn't even run 32-bit binaries. That said, attestation should be possible with user-locked bootloaders, not just vende

This, or we could have dual booting that's relatively as easy to do on mobile as it is on PCs. Currently, you'd have to do find an unlocked phone, hope there is a downloadable factory image, re-flash, re-lock, re-install to run wh

If moderate democratic senators could be bought with handouts to toe the party line (anyone remember those times?), perhaps closely examining mergers like this would be a higher priority. There are bills moving through congress though, and

I don't know what the breakup cash might have amounted to, but the AT&T roaming agreement was for 7 years, and it's only recently with n41/n71 that T-Mobile has done any better. The equivalent for this merger would be som

I've thought about just copy pasting the linking exception here and modifying the relevant bits to suit the AGPL project: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GPL_linking_exception#The_Clas... As the wiki says, the LGPL

I'd like to see a AGPL+linking exception (LGPL) license personally. Though I think license proliferation is generally good and people are free to choose the license they want for their particular works.

Good flash atleast goes readonly (Sandisk USBs in my experience), bad flash, not so much. The controller is probably playing a part as well.

I've now had two phones that with mild and bad water damage, have had their cellular connections stop working, while WiFi and BT work just fine. Anecdotally, I'd like to say this might have something to do with the RFFE's ana

I think this is about securing data/keys (AES, TLS, TPM..) vs securing code (Secure Boot, TEEs..). Neither is really a threat to software freedom as I see it, as long as it's user controlled or can be rendered effectively inactive

The Henrich book title and subtitle seem well put. The GK Chesterton comparison is apt. It led me to find this entry: https://slatestarcodex.com/2013/06/16/can-atheists-appreciat...

I miss read a bit when replying in the other comment, for 4 side-by-side 80 column windows, you'd need to bring the font size to 9, which isn't as comfortable as 14 for me in my side-by-side setup, but then 1.25x is also an option

Yep, 27" 4k at 1.5x (plasma) I can have 50/50 or 60/40 with font size 14 and get 110+ characters, not just 80. 60/40 would be for an IDE with a bar or two on the side and still get almost 110 columns in the editor/c

> 1.5x also gives you the same real estate as 1440p but with higher PPI but I don't know how crisp that will be given the scaling ratio. 1.5x is nice on a 27 inch 4k with 14+ fonts. HiDPI monitors do seem to have bloom, so slightly

Yeah, that makes little sense. Ideally you would want to point users to documented hardware, running QMK, or other (potentially reversed engineered) open-firmware.

I hope the regulations being discussed right now[1] pass and we can just call SecureBoot what it is instead of fearing what it might become (atleast on x86). [1] https://www.congress.gov/bill/117th-congress/senate-
