If you’re going full Malthusian, why be so pessimistic? Those are “positive checks” on population.

I’m referring to the arrow where I’m a goof and didn’t pay close enough attention to how I was using the app! :) I’d have sworn when I hit the arrow the comment thread collapsed. But when I read your reply and went back in to try, you’re cl

Generally, I like it. One bit of feedback is that you’re using the same (or at least similar) arrow for upvoting as you are in other places to collapse a thread. And I found that confusing. It seems a little redundant to include both the u

Humans are good at being anxious due to the precariousness of life. Especially for things we don’t fully understand. For example: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Halley's_Comet#1910 Why is the environment any diff

Well...since you're breaking out the examples despite my being coy for the non-sailors. Here's a video of the boats I was talking about. Trapeze sailing is really a blast and for the technically inclined, they are great boats: h

I used this workout for a while. https://stronglifts.com/5x5/ Simple, fast, and basically any gym will have the necessary equipment. If you don’t know the exercises, the videos are good. But getting someone to teach yo

I race small sailboats, and there’s a group of them that actively race on Monterrey Bay. A couple of friends had a whale, rather larger that an orca, surface below them. They’re pretty high tech boats. Carbon fiber, Kevlar, nomex sandwich.

Agreed. My high school Econ teacher told me I was too young to be cynical after I told her I expected to pay into SS throughout my career, but I didn’t expect to receive it. This was early 90s. I’ve never included it in my retirement planni

I recently bought one of the Star Lites from these guys: https://starlabs.systems Very nice machine so far. My only real complaint is the trackpad. Coming from years of Macs and a Pixelbook, it was a shock to the fingers. The 1

My answer is I don’t. When I started paying closer attention to my diet, I realized that while cutting so many things out, I needed a mental release valve. So ice cream gets a pass. I allow myself how ever much I want whenever I want. So ye

I was in Venice in May a couple of years ago. While the city was cool, and the typical attractions were fun to see, we were a bit underwhelmed. We then hopped a RyanAir flight to Bari because that's where my wife's family emigrate

Agreed. I’ve been using one for about a year. It’s my favorite machine since my first MacBook Air. Good keyboard, decent screen, long battery life. The only thing I’d have done differently would be to have gotten the i7 version.

Apple doesn’t do that? You enjoy using iMessages on your android phone and Linux laptop do you? Yeah, yeah, it’s different. Except that it’s the same in the areas in which each competes. There’s plenty of examples of Apple freezing out othe

On a sailboat in the snow. You can watch how the sails and wind interact. If you think the images are beautiful, find a way to spend time on a small boat offshore. You see many many things as beautiful. The photos make me miss my time offsh

Among the best solutions for seasickness are to watch the horizon, steer the boat, remove as much clothing as comfort allows, make sure there’s fatty food in your stomach, and stand so that your body is oriented in the direction of the boat

As we’re layering on praise, I’d like to pile on. I’m a partner in a company in Puerto Rico. Last year immediately after Hurricane Maria hit Puerto Rico, I wrote all of our off-island service providers asking for any help they could provide
