This sounds more like server-rendered again if I understand this correctly? Is there actually a DOM-based AWT emulation for J2cl (GWT) or TeaVM that can be used to actually run old Applets purely in the browser?

I think Switzerland is an exception, too: low tax burden and good government service in many areas.

Does this threat make the retired German Gepard air defence tank "modern" again? Alternatively, could one mount something like Phalanx CIWS on a truck? I suppose one wouldn't want to use (expensive) missiles (stinger?) agains

I have modernized Charles Hayden's Java port a bit a while ago (much of the code is string/text processing that can be simplified a lot by using library functions) https://github.com/stefanhaustein/eliza/

If you can't insure something reasonably it's not economical. The risk is just externalized.

I wish there was a platform connecting research in need for some coding with volunteers. It probably wouldn't work for large scale projects, but for smaller problems it might be worth a shot, perhaps utilizing the stackoverflow platfor

I think most of these issues should really be fixed in browsers though... And when they are, people will probably still point to this page for years... Hope this helps to bring visibility to the problems though...

P.S. I do not want to be cynical. I understand that this will be a very hard time for people living in Russia -- just at the moment it seems much worse for people living in Ukraine, and there seem to be few non-violent options to stop this
