I admit I prefer windows for home and work use. Might be because I am more used to the UI etc. and I'm not a command line animal. Although happy to use shell and vi when appropriate

One thing I regret is not taking a year off before kids to explore such things or one thing in depth. Without kids its quite affordable you can move anywhere in the world and live frugally. Have all day and all mental energy to explore with

Without the difficulty increases you would get more blocks mined per hour as the mining hardware improves. At some point you'd have multiple chains at once that can grow quickly because its too easy to hash, so effectively forks.

My understanding is you have an automatic copyright on the code you create. When you share you can optionally grant a license BSD etc. to let people use that code subject to X. So the code subject is owned.
