I just finished the Player of Games by Iain M Banks and I can highly recommend it as a timeless sci-fi, which I found prompted a lot of introspection. The books of Andy Weir (The Martian, Project Hail Mary) are also a lot of fun.

It sounds like a procedural oversight which demonstrates the structural bias built into the process.

I'm seeing this more as filing under "potentially relevant" rather than explicit speculation, but I can see your point. Thanks for the clarification.

At a future time it may become apparent that these events are linked in some way. It's too early to pin them together for sure, but I don't see a problem with raising awareness.

I have caps remapped to esc when tapped, and ctrl when held. Takes perhaps a weekend to get used to, but once the muscle memory is there it feels incredibly comfortable and natural.

I actually wasn't aware of this story. The steady stream of unexpected and enriching information like this is exactly why I love hackernews.

I don't understand how the physical privacy switch can also be user configurable. Wouldn't configurability mean it's a software privacy switch?

That's why I specified the protein found in oats, which is similar to but different from gluten. This paper adds some detail: https://scholar.google.com/scholar?hl=en&as_sdt=0%2C5&q=oat+...

I routinely used to eat an oat based breakfast, and would then feel as though my blood pressure and energy levels were seesawing around for the rest of the morning. Turns out I have celiac disease with sensitivity to the protein in oats. Dr

I have to admit that I found the Hyperion Cantos to be a bit of a disappointment. There were some decent bits and pieces scattered throughout, but overall the story never seemed to resolve into something I could find engaging. Can someone w

Last I checked, yes I am indeed human. Are you implying I'm a language model because you think my maths is wrong? Ok let's see, 20 Watts is 20 joules per second. Einstein was alive for about 75 years, so that's 75x365x24x60x6

Assuming his brain consumed the usual 20W, throughout his lifetime Einstein's grey matter would have gotten through about 4.6 billion Joules. Some napkin maths tells me ChatGPT consumes that much in about 2.8 milliseconds. I don't

I've asked how much lower the error rate should be in order to be acceptable, and you've then replied with a rebuttal to the message of the posted article. I agree that a zero error rate is generally not possible, although I think
