This still doesn't successfully counter the statement that C is the best language to start with. I'm biased since C is my first language. Do you recommend another better suited for the purpose?

Huh? I'm really not the one to pull in the generic argument but - there's a place for both and much more. It's great not needing write hundreds of lines of boilerplate code to get a 2D physics game prototype running, and conversely, it is n

About the olympics guys listening to music right up to climbing on blocks.... It might be that they need to maintain a particular rhythm in swimming, and they're just playing the song which happens to be or is artificially made to be that e

I've found silenced office much more distracting than one filled with some tunes or radio. You might recall the article about anacoustic chamber here on HN - the very silence of it made you brain perceive otherwise imperceptible sounds much

It's about controlling your emotional response (not dynamics really), which music does great. And you have the ability to control what you listen to. Conclusion is self-evident.

Some funk or disco (Sly and the Family Stone) in the morning to start the engines, some non-vocal groove (Medeski, Martin & Wood) throughout the day, and some energetic rock (Queen) to draw out extra juice by the end of the day. When go

I've succumbed into that populist crap (standing desks) for almost a year. Then I talked to older people from standing-up-a-lot-and-working-with-your-hands professions. They usually end with flat feet and compressed spine and multitude of o

Probably the same reason iPhone camera output is filtered (or any other technical term that ends up with photos looking better than they really are). I had my doubts WinAMPs shuffle was acting on some heuristics, though I never bothered to

Usually, when I do feel like not working on what I need to be working atm, I work on something else I DO feel like working on. Even when it costs me a deadline miss, I end up with something tangible in the end. That's my best yet strategy a

Well, where there's much to play with, you end up playing much. I frequently find myself playing in my .vimrc, .screenrc, .bashrc and other confs to not much obvious productive output. Changing window managers, console terminals and anythin

I've rewritten entire python codebase of my company in node.js several weeks ago. I like the 'purity' of it all now. It irks me still that js isn't really comforting at actual scripting.

Leap Motion spent presumably a lot of their funding to get free SDKs with free devices in the hands of developers. You guys might consider running a "mini-VC" with portion of that money to get few startups onto Meteor.

There is high tendency to present Project Glass as primarily augmented reality project. And that's ok, since AR (just the acronym alone) is getting a lot of PR. But high potential for the first instances of it don't lie there though but in

I doubt that Zynga's decline has anything to do with their flawed mechanics (I'd argue that it's flawed too), and everything with Facebook effectively killing it (specifically, 'Requests') in feed. There's no feedback loop in there anymore

I've watched it up until somewhere at end of season 2. It was getting stale, and I imagined it going worse, as pretty much most of the series. Good to hear in the comments that it gets better afterwards. Might even rewatch first two again.
