I have no idea if this is or isn't better/smaller/faster -- but, the branding seems awfully flawed. Why hinder your growth by making it hard for people to remember and refer to you?

Any Turbo Pascal folks remember OWL (Object Windows Library)? This was the first OOP framework I was exposed to.

What's unfortunate is that these particular experiences repeat themselves so often. Like most technical founders, I don't like selling stuff (I'm much rather crank out code), but as it turns out, that's an awfully important thing to do.

I'd pick WordPress. Sure, static files might scale better, but handling traffic is not usually the problem for most people. Getting traffic is.

Not sure I agree that the whole point of VC is to raise VC funding. The whole point of YC is to get connected with some great people and build something people want.

My startup ( http://www.HubSpot.com ) started off self-funded but is now venture-funded ($17 million in two rounds of funding).

Great advice. I think the $10MM number for needed "cash in the bank" seems a bit high. I think this is better looked at as a "months of runway" number (which he also refers to). I'd say that you should either be extremely cash-efficient (

Great article, but it's talking more about the long-term than the short-term. In the long-term, the removal of a "false economy" is great. In the short-term, there are an awful lot of entrepreneurs that are a wee bit dependent on that fals

What I find interesting is how many people independently arrived upon this "put logic in markup" approach to building customizable web applications. Allaire had a fair amount of success with this with ColdFusion.

Great points made as to why angel investors seem to favor consumer Internet. As an angel investor myself, I'd add one more reason why: Consumer internet is just a lot more fun than enterprise software. Who wants to talk about enterprise in

One of those rare cases where the title actually loses a bit as a result of the missing ! at the end. Should be: "Entrepreneurs and...Hey, There's A Shiny New Thing!"
