Maybe I'm just an optimist but I'm really glad to see that MS is even looking at the Acid3 and SunSpider tests as important metrics.

Good point. How can you argue that Outlook + Exchange is a better alternative to the competition when you don't know what the competition is.

I find it weird that he's so transparent about "company X pays me now, company X's products are SO much better than anything I've used in the past". Is this stuff compelling to engineers who care about technical merit rather than who is pay

To represent a contrary viewpoint: I haven't seen more than a handful of the patently useless accounts whereas I've noticed more and more "big names" showing up on HN. Just the other day in the Python language moratorium story I was asking

For example, shared offices often use one IP address. If someone locks safe search there, it is locked for everyone. But as a small company that strives to offer a real alternative to Google, we can deal with an IP based implementation. S

The reasonably rational person would infer from my comparison of Apple's two high-end product offerings vs Nokia's balanced offering and my saying that the former leads to a more tenuous market position that the intent was clearly to advoca

Well that's just my point. The only notoriety this language has is because of a naming clash, not for any legitimate technical merit.

This is all the more amazing since they have one super-high end product vs the balanced product portfolio of Nokia. You'd have to imagine this makes Apple's position a bit tenuous.

Despite the large amount of enthusiasm for language design, modern mainstream programming languages don't fall far from the C tree. The best that Microsoft, Sun, and Apple have to offer are just variations on that theme, with the addition

How exactly does willingness to pay $100 correlate to developer ability? Edit: and it's funny that Spolsky would complain about recruiters when that's exactly when he's trying to become on a larger scale. A middleman by another name would s

Drat. I do agree with the analysis you posted on your site [1] that it only will affect early-adopters/language geeks and is probably for the best for the python community at large. But two years is a darn long time in the technology world.

I think you'd be hard pressed to find a bug or security flaw in the language syntax or semantics. Remember, this doesn't mean that the implementations won't be improved underneath the covers, just the high-level language spec.
